SORT BY Relevancy
All across the country law enforcement agencies are called during hostage situations, whether hostages being held for demands, political purposes, or more commonly relationship disputes. None of the described situations tend to end well. Either the perpetrators or the hostages are harmed, physically, mentally and emotionally.
But what about the ripple effect these situations have on not only the immediate victims and family, but the law enforcement and other personal, as well as those who put endless hours negotiating for a safe resolution?
Shattered Lives Radio welcomes hostage negotiators, Derek Gaunt and Sandy Hein.
They will talk about a real life case from Alexandria, Virginia, the set up of the circumstances, how terms were negotiated, and the outcome. Listeners will be taken inside to what goes on during a hostage situation and how if affects so many.
Tonight on Bead Window Radio we have author Mark Lijek. The 2nd edition of Mark’s book is out, ‘Escaping Iran: A True Account of the Best Bad Idea.’ Mark’s a retired Army Officer and Foreign Service Officer and we’re talking about his experience during the Iran Hostage Crisis.

In tonight's episode, we will discuss Chapter 10: God and the Ego. Have you ever been confused about God's will for you? God's will for you is perfect happiness and peace. In fact, fullfilling God's will for y ou is the only thing that will bring you happiness and peace. Many of us have feared that doing God's will would be hard, and somehow take us away from what we want. So we spend time trying to resist it or avoid it. But we learn in the Course that there is absolutely no need to fear God's will for us because it IS our will! It is what we want and what will make us happy! God's will and our will are one.So listening to, and becoming host to the Holy Spirit instead of the ego, will allow us to begin to know and trust and fulfill God's will for us. And then we will be able to "give without limit...because our "love is as boundless as His" and know true joy. Let's learn toghether how to become "hosts to the Holy Spirit (instead of ) hostages to the ego."

Negotiating with someone who is holding another hostage with the threat of violence or death can not be taken lightly and commands the presence of professional negotiators to keep the situation at such a level that the threat to lives lost is minimized and the outcome is as positive as possible.
Derek Gaunt will give listeners an inside look into hostage negotiations and how he and other professionals from The Black Swan Group in Washington, DC have been successful in navigating through difficult circumstances.
This Saturday on Critical Discourse, we want to cover 2 pressing issues.
The first, the press conference by Eric Holder, launched a formal investigation into allegations and of civil rights violations, on the part of the Ferguson, Missouri police, in the wake of the Michael Brown shooting.
To say the least, the results should be greatly anticipated and perhaps to many black people, a confirmation and vindication of what many have said for decades, that [predominately white] police forces tend to act heavy-handedly, when it comes to black people, especially black men, which ultimately reverberates into unjust treatment by the larger, criminal justice system.
However, what if the probe does not substantiate such claims? How then, will black people deal with the nagging issues, in which we find ourselves crying out for redress?
Second,, as a smaller part of the minimum wage fight, on Thursday, thousands of fast-food workers across the country went on “strike”, demonstrating and demanding that their wages be increased to $15/hour.
Presuming this was to take place, what will be the impact on food prices? Are their demands, legitimate, or perhaps, part of a larger play by unions, to garner strength, members and money?
And I might ask, is somehow, the illegal immigration lobby interspersed in this?
Hostage negotiation is included in this Crisis Intervention series because there is a remarkable amount of crisis negotiation which goes on. Only 12% of all hostage incidents involve a perpetrator who is barricaded and has hostages. Most involve barricade situations, they occur in the home of the perpetrator, they are unplanned, and they involve males who are involved in domestic disputes.
Additionally, if you teach school, are a counselor, a mental health worker, or even a medical staff member you have a greater chance of being a hostage than others. Roughly 52% of all hostage takings are performed by the emotionally disturbed who are often in these settings. Also, workplace violence is increasing and it is growing more likely crisis interventionists will be involved in helping reconcile these operations.
If you really look at crisis intervention you find it is at the heart of hostage negotiation. Your trainer, Mike Pozesny, was trained by his state in Hostage Negotiation and admits crisis intervention was not a part of his training. Still, hostage negotiation is also called “crisis bargaining,” because there is a "give and take" where one person is attempting to convince another person to comply with their direction. In Crisis Negotiation all the elements of a crisis exist: disequilibrium, stress, poor cognition, heightened emotionality, and the trauma that occurs after event resolution.
