The April 5, 2014, episode of American Heroes Radio features a conversation with Vietnam era veteran, retired law enforcement official and founder of Honor Flight New England.
Joe Byron is the founder of Honor Flight New England. Honor Flight New England is a non-profit organization that transports World War II Veterans to the World War II Memorial in Washington DC at no cost to the veteran. Joe is a Vietnam era veteran, retired law enforcement officer and recognized expert in elder crime issues. After retiring he served as the Senior Services Coordinator with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and went on to work as a criminal investigator with the New Hampshire Office of the Attorney General Elder Abuse and Financial Exploitation Unit. He is responsible for the introduction of House Bill 180, which made the neglect of an elderly, disabled or impaired adult in New Hampshire a crime.
Honor Flight New England is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America's veterans for their sacrifices. Through generous donations we transport veterans from the New England States to Washington, D.C., to visit and reflect at their memorials AT NO COST TO THE VETERAN. Top priority is given to our most senior veterans – World War II survivors, and veterans of other wars that are terminally ill.

"Each veteran receives a mail call packet. To be able to sit with these men and women as they open their letters when perhaps for the last 20 or 30 years they received only bills and sales papers in the mail and then to see them receive hundreds of thank you's from complete strangers is beyond moving." ~Gillian Trumbull

What does the Honor Flight Trip to Washington D.C. mean to our Veterans? What does it take to make a grown man who fought in WWII, Korea, & Viet Nam cry? What does Veterans Day on 11/11/13 mean to you?
Honor Flights, a non-profit organization that organizes trips the the Washington D.C. Veteran's Memorials for our Service Men & Women means the world to these brave Americans. The outpouring of emotion brings tears to the eyes of many participating in the pilgrimage and is an active, significant way to say "Thank You" to our Veterans. Though we honor the survivors, often it is the great loss of their "Commrades in Arms" who are remembered as well as the battles won so America and the world could live in peace and freedom.

Time is of the Essence
According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, an estimated 640 WWII veterans die each day. Honor Flight Network will continue do whatever it takes to fulfill the dreams of our veterans and help our heroes travel absolutely free.
Subsequent to the World War II veterans, our efforts will then focus on our Korean War and then Vietnam War veterans, honoring them similarly.
(Note: Some hubs are now accepting applications from Korean and Vietnam Veterans. Please contact your local hub to see if they are accepting these applications.)

Our show Sunday Jan 25th will be about Honor. Do you take time to Honor yourself for all you are and all you've done? Do you allow others to honor you?
This time of change brings about many openings to bring love to ourselves. We tend to hand love out to others and it's important to love our own hearts too.
Come join Lauren and Michelle for this timely discussion. You are welcome to chat with us on our show; you can dial the call-in number at the top of the page and we would be delighted to answer the phone. And don't forget that this is the year to Expect Change and embrace that change.
