On this episode of Talking in Circles, we break down the weekend that was at Richmond International Raceway. Carl Edwards moved Kyle Busch out of the way on the final lap to win his 27th career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race.
Was that the correct move for Carl? Should Kyle invoke some revenge?
We'll give our Attaboys and surprises and talk about the points. Who is in danger of missing the Chase?
Also we'll discuss the news of the week: NASCAR has instituted a new lug nut rule starting this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. We'll give our thoughts on that and talk about how NASCAR can police this.
Plus Tony Stewart was fined $35k for comments about lug nuts, then NASCAR instutites the rule. Should NASCAR revoke the fine and how bad does the sport look. What made Stewart made those comments and why did the Driver's Council pay the fine?
Several media members have complained about Tony Stewart being eligable for the win at Talladega, even though he's gonna have a subsitute driver. We'll discuss our feelings on that.
Plus, it's going to be a wild weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. We'll preview the double-header weekend and take your phone calls at 917-889-8280.
Born and raised in Detroit Michigan, Tony “Strat” Thomas started out playing a six-string razor in high school. After Thomas’ mother saw his talent she bought him a Stratocaster Guitar. The rest is history. Early on while landing small gigs, Thomas joined the legendary reggae band Onyx and other rock ‘n roll bands around town. A true artist, Thomas’ psychedelic sound was one-of-a-kind. Thomas has been compared to his music mentors Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Hazel. In 1978, George Clinton gave Thomas a shot to play in the studio with the Sterling Silver Starship. As Thomas continued to work with Clinton as a studio musician, Clinton gave Thomas his big break. Thomas joined George Clinton, Bootsy Collins, Eddie Hazel, Garry Shider, Mike Hampton, Bernie Worrel, Bobby Womack, David “Chong” Spradley and Margua Booker to record and perform with The Parliament Funkadelic’s for over 20 years.“The Agony of Defeet” was Tony’s first guitar solo. He has played on various P-Funk projects such as the first P-Funk Allstars album songs such as Catcher Keeper, Hydraulic Pump, and Pumpin it Up.Thomas’ favorite project was Computer Games, featuring Atomic Dawg, and Loopzilla. That’s Thomas on the guitar loop!A seasoned recording artist, Thomas has shared both the stage and studio with Sly Stone, Ike Turner, Rick James, The Dramatics, Ron Banks, L.J. When Carly Robyn Green first came to this radio host's attention, she piqued interest immediately. Something about her face that is so much like the SUN :) Then, to HEAR her! She's like a throwback to the full-throated singers with real personality that populated stages and TV in the 60's. Vocalists that needed no bells and whistles. Just give them a microphone and a room - and you can hear them in the next town. LOL!
This Carly - she's a BEAUT as we used to say in Philly - and that is where our guest calls home! And she has played some truly significant landmarks in The City of Brotherly Love. And WAY beyond. It was at a special Grammy Awards show, singing back-up for Cee Lo Green (no relation!), that she received some of her best advice.
Bear with the messenger of this story now....we have to give you some background. Carly had been writing the du jour songs of the day: electro pop numbers that got a LOT of play. Seriously, views on You Tube beyond the thousands. Networks and cable, film and overseas markets. Her name is respected in the business, for sure. But she confessed to Cee Lo that she loved the music that stood the test of time. What he told her: Focus on THOSE songs that fuel you!
Inspired, Carly sought out some of the best writers she could fnd. Who wrote hit songs for Whitney Houston and Celine Dion and Bette Midler. She signed a publishing deal with BMG. And this is only a PIECE of her ongoing musical story. Her single, "What Love Is All About" is some kind of glorious power. It's Taylor Dayne and Ethel Merman and Bette belting out joy and passion in a new, unique honey-colored Hybrid. Gorgeous authenticity!
Meet Carly Robyn Green at two p.m. Eastern on 4/28 - she'll make you FEEL Spring all over again :)
Samson's riddle: out of the eater (Satan signified by the lion's carcass) came forth meat, and out of the strong (Satan is the strong man bound by Jesus at the cross) came something sweet (honey representing resurrection life and power springing up out the death Satan caused and Jesus died). Life springs out of death. This is the riddle, the mystery, revealed openly by the Apostle Paul.
Sweetness comes out of the bitterness of Satan taking us to the cross experience just as he did Jesus; Healing comes out of the woundedness of our afflictions; Wholeness arises out of brokenness of our cross experiences; Power is perfected in weakness; Success flows out of our failures; and Life springs out of death.
