    in Jobs

    Tuesday, May 26, 2015  | 1:00 PM EDT

The VA's Homeless Veterans Community Employment Services (HVCES) program helps homeless veterans re-enter the workforce and is a valuable community partner for workforce development organizations.

The Veterans Health Administration's Homeless Veteran Community Employment Services program provides wraparound services to Veterans exiting homelessness that enable them to successfully connect with businesses and return to employment. "This unique population is highly motivated and actually has a varied skill set from which employers can benefit," shared Dr. Carma Heitzmann, Director of VA's HVCES program. "Getting formerly homeless veterans into gainful employment and supporting them during that critical first year back in the labor force increases their success in both the workforce and in maintaining their housing status."  In this Workforce Central radio show from the National Association of Workforce Boards, President/CEO Ron Painter interviews Dr. Heitzmann to share the details of the HVCES program and how workforce development organizations can form partnerships and engage locally assigned Community Employment Coordinators to successfully place formerly homeless veterans into employment. Don't miss this opportunity to learn more about this valuable resource available to your region.

Experience Empowerment By Saying NO And Meaning It

    in Spirituality

Saying NO can be the hardest two letter that you can ever utter, and the most empowering.  Saying no to your loved ones, to your children, husband and family and friends is monumentally challenging. Saying no to your employer and work colleagues is challenging also, but from a different stand point, but challenging none the less.  Saying no to people asking for charitable donations and no to the destitute, displaced and homeless asking for money, while standing on the corner with a hand written sign, has another set of challenges, all of which play havoc with your emotions.  Saying no to certain things can be a no-brainer.  No, you cannot have my left and right kidney!  No! I’m not giving you your car keys; you might not be aware of this, but you’re drunk.
Within all of this, the irony here is, that the person you find it hardest to utter those two syllables to, and mean it, is yourself.  Saying no can hurt you too, because you know that it’s not what the other person wants to hear and they're hurting. There is nothing that you can do about their hurt, other than to be truthful in who you are.  By empowering you; you empower them.

Join me Dr. Wendy Dearborne choice expert and life coach and Olivia Lashley expressions coach and artist as we explore empowerment through saying no.

Guest will be Stephen Caro - Founder of Paws Pet Ranch/Paws Rescue Ranch. A 501 (c) Organization. Your Donations are tax deductible.

“When I look into the eyes of an animal, I do not see an animal. I see a living being. I see a friend. I feel a soul.”  ? A.D. Williams

http://www.pawspetranch.org/  Paws Pet Ranch Website. A SANCTUARY FOR SENIOR, ABANDONED, ABUSED AND NEGLECTED ANIMALS. At Paws Rescue Ranch we are “on call” for dogs and cats that are lost, surrendered or abandoned by their owners or are running out of time at the county shelters. After spaying and neutering and medical checkups, we find them loving new families or give them a forever home at the cage-free ranch for the rest of their lives. Paws Rescue Ranch began with the commitment that no pets should be euthanized because of old age or lack of space at a shelter. Paws Rescue Ranch is different than most rescues. We are a long-term senior care facility for dogs and cats, along with adoptions.

Alfreds Journey Halfway House in Ft. Pierce, Florida

    in Entertainment

My name is Alfred P. Perry, Jr. I'm 49 years old and I was born and raised in Ft. Pierce, Florida. I'm currently living in Vidalia, Georgia. For more than thirty one years, I was in and out of juvenile detention centers, youth facilities, jails and going to prison " FIVE " times and on October 27th, 2008, I was released from a Florida prison after serving fourteen years and nine months for some crimes that I didn't commit. Ever since my release, I've been making much positive progress. I've written and published a total of four books. Including an autobiography about my life titled " Alfredsjourney " and three books of poetry. I've also written two movie scripts during my incarceration. I've had numerous book signings in Florida and in Georgia as well. I've had several radio station interviews and on September 29th, 2011, I had the opportunity to travel abroad to Sweden and spoke to college and high school students about the power of a positive mind-set. ( See photos on my website : www.alfredsjourney.com ). I'm a full time mentor and I love and believe in sharing positive and inspiring words to anyone. My short term visions and goals is to establish a Alfreds Journey Halfway House and to have a documentary done about my life. Alfreds Journey Halfway House will be focused on helping troubled youth, homeless people and people returning from the penal system ( with the exception of sex offenders ). I also love and believe in doing volunteering work at homeless shelters.
