MARK PROCT Home Today Gone Tomorrow!

    in Pop Culture

When it comes to the music business, Mark Proct is a lifer. He’s not a star, but he is one of those people essential to stars a journeyman working behind the scenes who helps to make what happens onstage under the lights possible. A music industry professional in Austin, TX since 1975, Proct has labored in an array of showbiz infrastructure jobs, from driving tour buses to running sound, running his own lighting company and tour coach businesses and working as an artists’ manager. In the process, he not only helped further the careers of employers and clients, he played a pivotal role in the growth of Austin into a world-renowned hub for music and musical creativity. In those roles, and others, Proct has been present at pivotal moments in the careers of Stevie Ray Vaughan, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, the arc angels, Storyville, Vallejo, and others. A tireless amateur photographer, Proct was seldom without his camera, even as the music business took him and his musical compadres across the country and around the world. Now, after a lifetime of being behind the scenes, Proct is stepping out as the author of Home Today, Gone Tomorrow, a collection of rare, behind-the-scenes candid moments captured, as it were, on the run. These are not the glamor shots of carefully posed, manicured stars. Rather they are moments captured—backstage, in hotels, in recording studios, on city streets, behind the scenes.  It’s Proct’s gift that he was not only present in the moment, but had the presence of mind to capture it for the rest of us. Home Today, Gone Tomorrow not only catches musicians at pivotal moments in their lives, it also tells a larger story of the city of Austin, and its transformation from a sleepy college town to an international hub for music.

    Holly Elle (Pop/Dance)

    in Electronic Music

Tonight Pop Art Painter Jamie Roxx (www.JamieRoxx.us) welcomes back Pop/Dance Singer/Songwriter Holly Elle to the Show!

An electrifying bond of authenticity links modern chanteuse Holly Elle’s radiant voice to lyrics, melodies and beats. With soul infused pop as a point of reference – and the mantra “No labels, no rules, no limits” – Holly arrives with verve, vision and vibe.
While the press might portray Holly as a “Pop Powerhouse” there are far more complex dimensions to her ever-evolving artistry. Whether fronting a full throttle band, commanding a concert stage with electronic tracks or in an intimate venue accompanied by only an acoustic guitarist, she is equally enthralling. “The whole point of making music is for me to connect,” she confirms.

a Theory of Parenting -Central Park Conservatory Garden

    in Photography

The Conservatory Garden is Central Park's six-acre formal garden.

It is divided into three smaller gardens, each with a distinct style: Italian, French, and English. The Garden's main entrance is through the Vanderbilt Gate, on Fifth Avenue between 104th and 105th Streets.

The Italianate center garden is composed of a large lawn surrounded by hedges and is bordered by two exquisite spring-blooming pink and white crabapple trees.

A 12-foot high jet fountain plays on the western end of the lawn, backed by tiered hedges and stairs that lead up to a wisteria pergola.

On the walkway under the pergola are medallions inscribed with the names of the original 13 states.

spectacular seasonal displays of spring tulips,  all within an ellipse of Japanese holly.

In the center is the charming Three Dancing Maidens fountain by German sculptor, Walter Schott.

To the south is the very intimate English-style garden.

There are five mixed borders of trees, shrubs and perennial plants, and five seasonal beds featuring spring bulbs that are followed by annual flower displays.

A slope of woodland plants lines the western edge of this garden.

At the center is sculptor Bessie Potter Vonnoh's lovely Frances Hodgeson Burnett Memorial Fountain, a tribute to the author of the children's book, The Secret Garden.

The children — a girl and a boy, said to depict Mary and Dickon, the main characters from the classic — stand at one end of a small water lily pool.

The Conservatory Garden is an officially designated Quiet Zone and offers a calm and colorful setting for a leisurely stroll, and intimate wedding, or an escape with a good book.

For many years the garden was tended by volunteers from the Garden Club of America and in 1983 it was restored by the Central Park Conservancy.

The Freak Show With Ryan C Jones And Holly Mullins - June 28,2015

    in Paranormal

On this episode of The Freak Show, Ryan and Holly are joined by Josh Detwiler of Translating Phantoms.

Ever since I was a little kid I’ve always been into the paranormal. I can remember watching shows like Unsolved Mysteries and my favorite episodes were always the ones about ghosts and UFOs. Even though they scared the crap out of me, I couldn’t stop watching. The question of “do ghosts exist” has never really been a question for me. I have always believed. Growing up I played a lot of sports, I was involved in things that were more “the norm” for most people, but I was always drawn to the paranormal, it was always in the back of my mind. My teachers would get frustrated with me because the only books I wanted to read were things like Goosebumps and the Scary Stories series, I could never get into any of the books we were required to read. As I got older the paranormal still stuck with me, the ghost hunting shows started to pop up and I couldn’t help but watch them every time they were on. After watching those for so many years one day the thought just popped into my head that it was time to quit relying on TV and it was time to find out if this stuff was for real for myself, so I jumped in head first, investigating anywhere I thought could be haunted.
Now that I have years of investigating under my belt I do have some answers, but it seems the more I investigate the more questions I end up having. I always keep an open mind and remind myself every chance I get that even though I have my own opinions about the paranormal, I could be wrong. The only thing that is 100% fact in the paranormal is that nothing is 100% fact. None of us really know what is on the other side or what the other side really is. Always seek the truth and more importantly always question those who claim to have found it, trust no one, not even me, and research everything for yourself.
