    Remembering Christopher Hitchens (1949-2011)

    in Education

Many have expressed a desire to talk about Christopher Hitchens, his writings, his speeches, his influence on their lives.

In the wake of his much-too-early death, we spend time reflecting on Hitch's life and legacy.

    Should We Mock Religion?

The late Christopher Hitchens once said that "Mockery of religion is one of the most essential things...one of the beginnings of the human emancipation is the ability to laugh at authority.  It's indispensable."

But does the mockery of religious belief close minds (and doors) as skeptics attempt to promote rationalism and disabuse superstitious people of their faiths (and is that even a goal)?  Should the ridiculous be ridiculed, or should we find other methods for exposing the cracks in religious foundations?

Christopher Hitchens: Some Confessions and Contradictions - 6/4/2010 Interview

Christopher Hitchens, tackling nearly everything with unmatched enthusiasm, erudition and, at times venom, has up to now barely touched upon one subject: his own life.

After many years writing about world issues and traveling to some of the most dangerous places on the planet, comes his memoir Hitch-22. Though Hitchens can navigate any argument with great dexterity, his memoir focuses on those whom he has loved, those he has abhorred, and those who have helped shape him throughout his life. The memoir answers this question: How the hell did Christopher Hitchens become Christopher Hitchens?

R&HSports Talk: Dallas Cowboys at St. Louis Rams Postgame Show

Rattle and Hum Sports - Dallas Cowboys Postgame Show

Hosted by Bryan Houston with guest Matthew Postins

RattleandHumSports.com host Bryan Houston welcomes Matthew Postins to provide a cool down after a back and forth game between the Cowboys and Rams.

Austin Davis started for the Rams and was hot in the first half leading the Rams to 14 of their 21 point lead. Tony Romo thew an ill-advised pick six placing the Cowboys in a 21 point hole in the second quarter.

However, the Cowboys got the running game going again with DeMarco Murray, despite another early fumble by the league’s leading rusher.

The Cowboys would go on to score 20 unanswered points to cut the Rams lead to one 21-20 heading into the fourth quarter.

The defense came up with key stops and turnovers, Tony Romo and the offense made plays when they had to and the Cowboys had some good fortune from the referees play a part in the outcome.

Was this a true team effort today? Have the Cowboys stayed committed to Murray who had his third 100 yard rushing day despite the fumbling in all three games.

What kind of grade can you give the Cowboys defense who played without linebackers Rolando McClain and Justin Durant? Did Anthony Hitchens make a statement with a key fourth and inches stop of the Ram’s offense giving the ball back to his offense?

Speaking of statements, many are being made about Morris Claiborne and his continued struggles to live up to his draft position in 2010. Is time for the Cowboys to give up hope on the once promising corner from LSU? Is it that difficult to learn zone coverage for a player who has always been a man to man corner?

Rattle and Hum Sports Dallas Cowboys at St. Louis Rams Preview

Hosted by Bryan Houston with guest Matthew Postins

RattleandHumSports.com host Bryan Houston is joined by Dallas Cowboys writer Matthew Postins to preview the Cowboys at Rams this Sunday.

The Cowboys picked up their first win of the 2014 season last week in Tennessee and is a 1.5 point favorite to get win number two this week in St Louis.

Tony Romo was feeling some back pain this week. Romo has been sacked a league leading seven times in two games. What is his status and should there be concern?

The Cowboys beat Tennessee by running DeMarco Murray down the Titans throats. Murray has gained more rushing yards (285) than ANY other Cowboy through two games.

Will the Cowboys game plan be run, run, run or will they try to fool themselves and open up a the passing games despite the success running the football thus far this season and outsmart themselves?

Defensively the Cowboys have performed serviceably through two games. The good news this week is Orlando Scandrick will return after his suspension was reduced to the league’s new drug policy. The bad news is that the surprising middle linebacker, Rolando McClain, has suffered a groin injury joining Justin Durant in that category which makes rookie Anthony Hitchens the most viable option in the middle of the Cowboys second level of defense should Durant and McClain be limited or out.

The Rams have been quiet about their starting quarterback, either Shaun Hill or Austin Davis, as a strategical move but will it matter? Will the Cowboys bring home a 2-1 record from St. Louis or will they drop a game they should win before welcoming the Drew Brees and the high flying New Orleans Saints to primetime at AT&T Stadium next Sunday night?

Join Bryan and Matthew LIVE today at 12:30 PM CDT for all this and more!!!

Are You Smarter Than Your Pastor Christopher Hitchens

    in Religion

Live Binder link for more information http://www.livebinders.com/edit?id=403885
Christopher Hitchens known as the angry athiest, but was he really mad at the God written of in the bible, or the millions of people claiming to be of God or Christian in differing religious orders and denominations teaching and preaching the doctrine of devils.
In these difficult days and times we often look to spiritual leaders for guidance and instruction in our lives. As Christians (followers of Christ) should these leaders speak from their mind, or from what is written based on the word of God? This show will examine things said by men and woman claiming to be Gods ministers to reveal whether or not they are speaking Gods word and doing his will. 1Pet 4: 11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through JesusChrist, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.We hope you tune in and listen to our show. We air programs on Blog Talk Radio at the following times: Sun 2:00pm, Tue 8:00pm, Wed 7:00pm, Fri 7:00pm & Sat 9:00am all eastern time.

    Axis of Evil: Christopher Hitchens
    Commonwealth Club
    Summary
Acclaimed writer and political scholar Christopher Hitchens may just be the only writer to have recently visited Iran, Iraq and North Korea. Hitchens - known for his keen wit, sharp political insight and often controversial opinions - examines the differences between the countries once linked as the "axis of evil," while revealing intriguing connections between the nations.

    Summary
Christopher Hitchens speaks about his new book God is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything.

Hitchens, an always colorful and sometimes outrageous commentator, now takes aim at God. Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins have tried, but that hard-to-hit Fellow keeps popping back up. Worse still are the violent ways of his flock: waging religious warfare, keeping women enslaved, fomenting universal hatreds. Hitchens makes a powerful case for atheism- Politics and Prose
