Tonight, we will be sharing a replay in honor of Black History month. Listen in to this very informative and candid conversation about how Jim Crow Laws still exist today. America is the most diversified country in the world, and yet, racism is still alive and well in this great country we call "land of the free".
Let's talk about the issue. Can this country learn to tune out the divisive rhetoric and unite together to Make A Difference? We would like to hear your thoughts. Tell us what you think in the comment section.

February is Black History month. As the month begins to move forward...I was recently asked a question of whether or not we are making in strides in expanding the knowledge base on Black History? Are we better or worse off than we have been in the past? Do we need to make changes...and, if so, what changes and how can they be made? With the current state of race relations in our society...is this even a feasible idea? If you have a perspective...call in and share!
On the last episode of Spartan Life Radio, we talked about the stupendous Black History Month (BMH) 2016 observance taking place at Norfolk State University. In this episode, we tracked down several faculty members who have created unique and interesting programming for this year's observance. Did you know that there's a connection between the famous Buffalo Soldiers of Virginia's history and the Philippines? We're going to talk to NSU's Dr. April T. Manalang, assistant professor in the Department of History and Interdisciplinary Studies, about her research into this "hidden" Virginia History and the program she's created for the Black History Month Celebration. Professor Anthony Stockard, director of the NSU Theatre Company, will discuss the encore performance of the award-winning play "The Brothers Size." The drama has won several awards and was recently presented at the Kennedy Center's American College Theatre Festival. "The Brothers Size" was also presented at last year's National Black Theatre Festival making it the most-awarded production in Norfolk State University history! And, last but certainly not least, Professor Carol Pretlow, NSU's resident political guru, who will round out our panel will discuss a BHM program involving students from the political science department. African American Perspectives on International Politics and Foreign Policy is a panel discussion on the topic from the student perspective.
Join us for what promises to be a spirited conversation.

February 3, 1996: Marco Antonio Barrera TKO12 Kennedy McKinney. That means that almost exactly 20 years ago HBO debuted the Boxing After Dark series with much success. The series has gone on to become nearly legendary, and HBO's boxing programming has at times become synonymous with the sport itself.
On this boxing history episode of Top Men Boxing Radio, Aris Pina of Compubox and The Fight City's Patrick Connor talk about the various Boxing After Dark shows that have left imprints on their memories. From Ivan Robinson vs Arturo Gatti, to Erik Morales vs Daniel Zaragoza and onto his rivalry with Barrera himself. There was heavyweight action with Derrick Jefferson vs Maurice Harris too, but a whole lot more than that.

Historians and archaeologist have confirmed that the first people in the Americas were black. Does this mean the indigenous Americans are black? Yes. Although this information has been kept from us, our true identity is starting to unfold. For years we’ve been told that we arrived to the Americas by slave ship, when in fact most of us were already here. Is it possible that the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade is a fictitious story used to trick indigenous black people out of their homelands and history?“…Omission, not distortion, is the far more serious culprit in hiding the story of the black Indians of America.” Williams Lorenz Katz, Black Indians. Many black people who trace their heritage will not find any African slavery in their family. It’s also not a coincidence that many of us blacks have been told by an elder in our family that, “We have Indian in our blood.” There were no ‘red Indians’ until the colonizers began mixing with the indigenous blacks. Below is a short list of black native tribes:
Queen Chief Warhorse (Elwin Green Gillum) is chief of the Chata tribe. She resides in New Orleans and is very vocal about the injustices the indigenous (black) Americans receive from the government. In a television broadcast, Chief Warhorse said:
“The first thing you have to do is go through being classified as crazy. The United States has fixed it so if anything is not by their rule, it’s crazy…”
