In February Americans have more to celebrate than Valentine's Day. Indeed, what better time to honor our first Commander-in-Chief than Presidents’ Day--this, by commemorating George Washington’s birthday? And what better place than his namesake Inn, one of Washington State’s finest bed and breakfasts nestled along the Strait of Juan de Fuca between Sequim and Port Angeles? Join the Inn’s owners, Dan & Janet Abbott, & Washington historian Vern Frykholm as together we relive colonial history & explore forgotten facts about the father of our country & the gracious estate he called home.
When supernatural manifestations of God’s presence happen there are two types of fear that a person can have, depending upon what is in the heart of the person. Now all the people witnessed the thunderings, the lightning flashes, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood afar off. Then they said to Moses, “You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die.” And Moses said to the people, “Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin.” So the people stood afar off, but Moses drew near the thick darkness where God was. (Exodus 20:18 – 21)Unholy fear causes you to distance yourself from God, holy fear causes you to purify yourself and come near to God. Those who know God, through experiencing His love, will press in past their fear into the glory of God’s presence. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. (1stJohn 4:18)

Leonard Todd is the author of CAROLINA CLAY, the story of the slave potter known as Dave. Newsweek calls it “a fascinating account.” Publishers Weekly describes it as “a sweeping tale of the South itself.” It was a finalist for The National Award for Arts Writing, and it won the South Carolina Center for the Book Award for Writing. It is published by W. W. Norton.
Born in South Carolina, Leonard was educated at Yale University. He is a former Fulbright Scholar to France. He lived for many years in New York City, where he began his writing career with travel articles, short stories, and novels for young adults. Two of his novels, set in areas of the South that he knew well as a boy, were optioned for film productions.
Author Leonard Todd will be talking with us about the great ceramic artisan known as “Dave,” who lived in South Carolina during the 19th century. He was a potter, a poet, and a slave.
For many years, very few details were known about this enigmatic man. Leonard, however, discovered a startling personal link to him and set out to uncover his story. The prize-winning book, CAROLINA CLAY, is the result
Leonard now lives with his wife, a poet, in Edgefield, South Carolina, where he recently wrote the book, lyrics, and music for his first theatrical musical, SUNNY DAY, which had its premiere at the Edgefield County Theatre Company.
Leonard has told Dave’s story to audiences at the Smithsonian, at Oxford, on National Public Radio, and today he will be telling it to us.
In ancient Israel, the call for a solemn assembly was issued by the nation’s leaders –prophets, priests, or kings. It was given to them & then passed to the people. Prophetess Letitia Peters has proclaimed a BODY OF CHRIST SOLEMN ASSEMBLY (B.O.C.S.A.) as a directive from God for His people to seek the face of God. 2 Chronicles 7:14 is a great example of God’s call for a solemn assembly, which states, “if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves, & pray & seek my face & turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven & will forgive their sin & will heal their land.”
Sanctifying a fast & blowing the shofar is included as part of the solemn assembly as stated in Joel 1:14-15 & Joel 2:15-16.
2 Chronicles 7:14 is a great example of God’s call for a solemn assembly.
Kick-off/Closing of the B.O.C.S.A. (blowing the shofar):
Feb. 9, 2016 to Feb. 12, 2016, Feb. 10, 2016 to Feb. 13, 2016.
