    Interview with John Berry

    in Country Music

John Berry has a new outlook, a new address and a new beginning. The singer-songwriter rose to stardom on the country charts of the 1990s with such mega hits as “Your Love Amazes Me,” “Standing on the Edge of Goodbye” and “She’s Taken a Shine.” His annual Christmas tours brighten the holidays for thousands, as does his electrifying rendition of “O Holy Night.”

During his star-making decade, John placed 20 singles on the county hit parade. He earned Gold and Platinum records. He was nominated for a Grammy Award, CMA Awards and ACM Awards. And thanks to the miracles of modern technology, he even sang a duet with the late, great Patsy Cline.

But when the hit records faded, John quietly left Nashville and headed back to his native Georgia. "The fall is hard. For a time it left me angry and disillusioned. I was fortunate because singing was all I had ever done and all I knew to do.  I buckled under and made it work. It was then that I became the President and Janitor of JB Music. I am proud to say I have survived and grown because of it. Now I wish I could go back and talk to my younger self. I enjoy myself and making music. I love what I do. I’m realistic about who I am. I’m hopeful and excited about the future. I refuse to go away, because I LOVE singing and always will. I have a bus and sound and lights, and I’m always all dressed up and ready to go.”

Tune in to hear John telling stories from his music career - as well as sharing past hits and brand new music! Visit John online at www.johnberry.com

Does The Uniform Become Them? Daily Gogetemism #486

    in Lifestyle

We probably asume that cops and military personnel are pretty much representative of their jobs even when they are off duty or not serving any longer but what about the rest of us? Do we become what our uniforms at work dictate us to be even when we aren't there? Should it?

Fireman, cosmetologists, nurses, doctors, construction workers, bus drivers or train conductors, housekeepers, chefs, postman etc. Do the people that you know in these professions represent more of a lifestyle than their job? Is that a good thing? When is it bad?

Race & Relations: The American Judicial System

    in The Bible

The television is bombarded with images of the injustice of African Americans in this country and while Lady Justice is sitting quietly, turning a blind eye and deaf ear to the continuous pain and unfair mistreatment of African Americans, it's clear that though others may not value the lives of our black youths--something has to be done!

Bishop McKinney addresses a lot of the concerns that surrounds the judicial system regarding black lives and what we need to do as a community and as a race of people to become economically ahead and not participate in destroying the lives of our fellow black sisters and brothers because it truly is a spiritual warfare!  We must be ahead of the game and stop refusing to be last when everyone who is not of African descent has benefited off of the sweat and blood of our African ancestors.  We must educate ourselves by putting down the video games and picking up a book.  We must empower ourselves by being filled with the spirit of God so that he can direct our footsteps and we must not kill each other, leaving another heartbroken parent to carry the pain of grief because the life of her/his child was snuffed out.

Did Dr. Martin Luther King and so many march for nothing?  Did Rosa Park refuse to sit in the back of the bus for no reason?  Was Harriet Tubman's Underground Railroad in vain? But more importantly, does Black Lives Matter?

We are living in a world that is fraught with dangers and all sorts of personal and global challenges. Today's show, featuring the award winning writer and lecturer, Dr. Jamal Watson, is designed to empower and inspire you to make a difference in whatever way you can.  Let me stress that change is brought about because ordinary people do extraordinary things.  A favorite example is Rosa Parks who refused to give up her seat on a city bus to a white person. The rest is history.  You, too, can make history.

Ultimate Trekking Adventure-Everest Base Camp, Nepal Part 1

    in Travel

It’s one of the most coveted treks in the world. Everest Base Camp, Nepal. Far East Adventure Travel is proud to present two podcasts completely devoted to the magic of trekking this region. From crossing the sometimes trecherous Chola Pass to the final steps arriving at Everest Base Camp. And an early morning ascent of Kala Patthar for one of the best views of Everest in all of Nepal. Join me John Saboe for one of Asia’s great adventures. Trekking to Everest Base Camp.

Everest Base Camp, Nepal. Right from the start I was in for a hair raising experience. The flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, rated as one of the most dangerous airports in the world is often canceled in October, the busy season due to weather conditions. If it’s not cloudy or windy in Lukla, it is in Kathmandu, making it extremely tricky to complete scheduled flights. You can be stranded in Lukla for days waiting for a weather window. Same this goes in Kathmandu. Days!

You can avoid the whole worry of flight delays and dangerous weather conditions by trekking all the way to Lukla.  Take a bus from Kathmandu to Jiri, about 9 hours. Then just walk for a week! For me, I was extremely lucky  to be on one of the first flights that day from Kathmandu to the start of the trek with favorable weather conditions.
