Despite adversity and limited opportunities, African Americans have played a significant role in US military history over the past 300 years. They were denied military leadership roles and skilled training because many believed they lacked qualifications for combat duty. Before 1940, African Americans were barred from flying for the US military. Civil rights organizations and the black press exerted pressure that resulted in the formation of an all African-American pursuit squadron based in Tuskegee, Alabama, in 1941. They became known as the Tuskegee Airmen.
The military selected Tuskegee Institute to train pilots because of its commitment to aeronautical training. Tuskegee had the facilities, and engineering and technical instructors, and climate for year-round flying. The first Civilian Pilot Training Program students completed their instruction in May 1940. The Tuskegee program was then expanded and became the center for African-American aviation during World War II.
The Tuskegee Airmen overcame segregation and prejudice to become one of the most highly respected fighter groups of World War II. They proved conclusively that African Americans could fly and maintain sophisticated combat aircraft. The Tuskegee Airmen’s achievements, together with the men and women who supported them, paved the way for full integration of the US military.
Nov. 6, 1998, President Clinton approved Public Law 105-355, which established the Tuskegee Airmen National Historic Site at Moton Field in Tuskegee, Alabama, to commemorate and interpret the heroic actions of the Tuskegee Airmen during World War II. The site contains a museum and interpretive programs at Moton Field and a national center.

Hear about a parent's experience with Common Core that was not supposed to happen. The book by Toni Morrison, The Bluest Eye was banned from Alabama High Schools yet another book by same author of the same mold (written ) is being taught. The Common Core Standards Initiative has been warned by Early Childhood Development Experts and Mental Health Experts as harmful, developmentally inappropriate and by one as "Cognitive Abuse". Alabama has a chance to repeal it.
On the note of freedom not being free, one may wonder what truly is paid for the freedoms we as Americans enjoy. Some popular answers may be an arm, leg, time and in the worst of cases; the life of a United States Service member. Regardless of the branch they served in or the era, in which they served, freedom is only as strong as those willing to protect it. Brave men and women are willing to defend freedom, while fighting to secure it. These heroes serve as the hands of freedom, for without them freedom would not exist.
Tonight on Freedom's Hands, Richard K. P. Morrison will be talking to a representative from the Sussex Technical High School Concert Choir. Tomorrow, 5/19/15 the choir will be holding a concert with proceeds going to a project that builds homes for veterans who were wounded defending this great country.

Being a mom is already difficult. It requires patience, love, understanding, and the right amount of discipline. That being said, imagine being a Black mother in a season where police killings of innocent Black youth are becoming regular occurences.
Recently, during a police protest in Baltimore, a Black mom physically disciplined her son in public for taking part in the activities. The video of the 'abuse' went viral and lots of people weighed in. Some hailed her a 'hero', while others accused of her of publicly emasculating a Black man and adding to an already oppressed state of mind.
I have invited three Black moms to take part in a discussion about the fears and challenges of raising a Black child in today's social climate. We will discuss the video, their thoughts on the current generation, and what they would like to see in response to all the killings (from both cops and other Blacks). This will be an empowering and thought provoking conversation.

Jamaican derogatory word for a male homosexual. "Akinyele ah bumboclaat battybwoy!!"
ben is a batty bwoy
casey is a batty bwoy
casey fucks ben, they are batty bwoys
Max-Arthur Mantle's new novel 'BATTY BWOY' has captured the rawness of being Black and gay in America, as well as Jamaica. It is a coming of age tale that readers will appreciate for its honest depiction of a young man learning about and growing into himself.
Along with dicussing his book, Max and I will dialogue about some of the struggles faced by LGBT persons in other countries and how painful it is to have to hide who you are just to survive.

NSA disclaimer: I have lived the majoriy of my life as a dissodent; like Bob Dylan or Jim Morrison. I intepret the nuance of American culture and the sequence. I embrace the folklore, the fringe instincts people act upon. I did two shows this week on Jade Helm but I am not afraid. Government and militia are made of men. Men are vessels of belief systems. If I lived in Nigeria, I may be afraid of the government because there is no stable rights system. But I am not afraid nor am I really bucking anyone or any system. I am a messenger of social practicum but not a fear monger. Who are you?
