Here at North Florida Writer Live we’re sure that the topic for Wednesday night is, at best, confusing to understand. But we’re fortunate to have our frequent guest, Meg Norris of Opt Out Georgia, bring us some exciting news about what is going on in Georgia to push for legislation to dramatically change the Common Core disaster that we see all over this great land. Meg also informed me about a businessman who has great knowledge of the real Cuba, Alex Gimenez, who will tell us about the plight of the poor Cuban people. An American by birth born to parents of Cuban and Argentinian descent, he is concerned about what we don’t know about Cuba. While we are opening doors and lifting the embargo against Cuba per the President’s executive actions, the Cuban people are living under an internal embargo courtesy of the Castro regime. The poor citizens basically own nothing and serve as serfs for the state. In the words of the late and great Paul Harvey, Alex brings “the rest of the story”.
Alex is the father of two grown children and he is also very concerned about the educational system here in America and in his hometown of Atlanta. So we’ll also get his take on Common Core and what a good businessman with international experience, not a crony-capitalist as a lapdog to the state, thinks about the process and what should be done about it.
It should be a great discussion. The show goes live Wednesday night at 7. You won’t want to miss this one. See you then.

People's Free Medical Research Health Clinics
We believe that the government must provide, free of charge,
for the people, health facilities that will not only treat our illnesses, most of which are a result of our oppression, but that will also develop preventative medical programs to guarantee our future survival. We believe that mass health education and research programs must be developed to give all Black and oppressed people access to advanced sCienti c and medical information, so we may provide ourselves with proper medical attention and care.
Point Six of the Black Panther Party Program's Platform of March 29, 1972, explains the reasons for the institution ofthe People's Free Medical Research Health Clinics, which provide free medical treatment and preventative medi cal care for the community. Private hospitals and doctors charge fees far more expensive than poor people can a ord, while public hospitals and clinics are so overcrowded and understa ed that their services are almost totally inade quate. The People's Free Medical Research Health Clinics o er an alternative to this problem.
The clinics provide comprehensive health care for the community. Doctors treat patients for common physical ailments and refer them to spe cialists if necessary. Laboratory testing is also provided in conjunction with local hospitals.
Along with the Sickle-Cell Anemia Research Foundation, the clinics con duct testing and research for a cure for sickle-cell anemia.
Child health is a serious problem in the Black community, and the clinics have developed a ChildHealth Care Program to meet this community need. The Child Health Care Program provides immunizations; screening and sickle cell anemia iron de ciency anemia, and tuberculosis; referrals; and complete physi cal examinations as well as treatment of illnesses." Back by Popular Demand Elana and Steven dive in to the second episode of The Venture Bros. called "Maybe No Go". The Venture Bros. cartoon on Adult Swim references everything from Hannah-Barbara to Marvel, David Bowie to the Big Bopper, cult cinema, Oscar Wilde to Henry Kissinger. The show’s central theme is failure-- the reality of life after the promises and optimism of the 60s space age have faded. But also the positive value of failure as a way to learn and grow, of making unpleasant realities better, and ultimately whether you can learn to keep the joyfulness of youth without its illusions.
In this podcast episode Elana and Steven continue to explore the series as pop culture history geeks, talking about the latest episode, drawing out themes and references.
In this segment, Neicey LaShelle and co-host, LRB will dive deeper into dissecting religion and the church from the perspective of former members. How can the church be a bridge in the age of Knowledge if the core is belief? If Unity is the call of the day in our communities, how could churches merge beyond their own ideologies to become part of the solutions? If religion requires embracing of undeniable truth with the church, how could the conflict of awakening be reconciled? Tune in for “Mocha Masseuse Talk Back’ as we go down this ‘Rabbit Hole’ and shed light on points you’ve probably wrestled with as well.
