"When it comes to money, people have to progress from "Who's going to help me?" and through "I've got to help myself" onto "I've got to help others". It's in helping and serving others through your jobs and businesses that you'll prosper the most, as you're helping others." Sean Hyman.
To give, you first must have. Time, encouragement, things, money - whatever the commodity of the gift, you must first have it to give it - so giving is a POWERFUL place to be. No matter how small the gift, the giver is in that moment richer than the recipient. Giving joyfully magnifies the gift for the giver too.
Knowing that place of need, and recognizing that even in that place, most of us are still better off than the rest of the world. In fact, according to a Forbes.com article, ""the typical person in the bottom 5 percent of the American income distribution is still richer than 68 percent of the world’s inhabitants." For those of you in the bottom 50% of America's standard of living, who wish they were in the top 50%, maybe the answer to moving from handouts is to help others. Zig Zigler says ""You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want."
In a little while, we will start holiday shopping for gifts, so I wanted to bring this show to you now. As you create your shopping budget, include something for the less fortunate.
As the parent of a child with a life-threatening heart defect, it's easy to feel overwhelmed by the new "heart world" the family is immediately part of. On this show two mothers who have children with critical congenital heart defects (CHDs) will discuss how they became empowered members of the CHD community by tapping into ways to help others in their community.
Wayverly Mouse-Evangelista will share how her love of arts and crafts enabled her to find a way to reach out to others in the CHD community. She will share what specific items she has created for the heart community and how others can find them.
Susan Vanderpool will share how her situation caused her to see a need for vital information in a heartbeat. She will tell us about how she created a product to calm mothers' fears. Having a school-aged child with a major heart defect in school full-time, away from a loving parent, can be a scary prospect. Ms. Vanderpool shares how her product can relieve parents' anxiety about this situation.
We will also hear from CHD Survivor Natalie McGee how she found a way to give back to her community. Through her own adversity she was able to create a product to help herself and others. Find out what she created and how you can benefit from the creations she and her mother have designed.

Helping others has a positive effect on your community — and it’s good for you too. A college freshman who did volunteer work, calls it “a win-win situation." He says, "You feel good because you're helping others, and the others feel good because they're getting help.”

Whether you build houses for the homeless or mail flyers for a local politician, you can experience the real world through hands-on work.
Sometimes, the way to find the best in yourself is to focus on helping others.
We all know people who are happy and thriving, while doing extraordinary things for others. They glow, they are energized and we want to be around them. Why is that?
Sometimes, the best part of ourselves is the part that can empathize and share with other people. And it can be a big piece of the puzzle in being your best YOU.

People usually only reach out only when they need help or there is a crisis but we here Dream Catchers we believe in community support, Peer to peer Support, and Systems change Advocacy and that there are people everywhere with and without disabilities who can learn a lot from survivors!
I met someone who doesn’t have a disability who is down on their luck. I invited them to come to our last Brain Injury Support group meeting and they came. They wound up telling people all over the community about what we are doing and in turn others started helping out and it turned into a beautiful thing!!!! Tonight we will be talking about building up Community services for everyone in need with is a true act of kindness indeed!
We could work together in a food bank or offer support in many ways but one of the harshest realities I have witnessed in the disability community is that disabilities segregate and separate from one another.
We all are fighting for the same pot of money the same rights under the ADA so why not all of us fight together on the same team for all people with disabilities and be 56,000,000 and for an unbeatable power house team of survivors that just simply believes that discrimination of any type is wrong!!!!
