Helping others has a positive effect on your community — and it’s good for you too. A college freshman who did volunteer work, calls it “a win-win situation." He says, "You feel good because you're helping others, and the others feel good because they're getting help.”
Gain Valuable Life Experiences and Skills
Whether you build houses for the homeless or mail flyers for a local politician, you can experience the real world through hands-on work.
Sometimes, the way to find the best in yourself is to focus on helping others.
We all know people who are happy and thriving, while doing extraordinary things for others. They glow, they are energized and we want to be around them. Why is that?
Sometimes, the best part of ourselves is the part that can empathize and share with other people. And it can be a big piece of the puzzle in being your best YOU.
Nikki Johnson-Huston has been my guest twice before,(4/3/11, 1/8/12) but this time she is bringing us some amazing news. Not only is she going to share with us some of what she learned while traveling to India and New Zealand for her Eisenhower Fellowship last year, but she is going to talk about her book proposal! The story that traces her own personal journey from being homeless to her career as a successful attorney and advocate.
Join us on a special time and day for an hour with a very special lady!

People usually only reach out only when they need help or there is a crisis but we here Dream Catchers we believe in community support, Peer to peer Support, and Systems change Advocacy and that there are people everywhere with and without disabilities who can learn a lot from survivors!
I met someone who doesn’t have a disability who is down on their luck. I invited them to come to our last Brain Injury Support group meeting and they came. They wound up telling people all over the community about what we are doing and in turn others started helping out and it turned into a beautiful thing!!!! Tonight we will be talking about building up Community services for everyone in need with is a true act of kindness indeed!
We could work together in a food bank or offer support in many ways but one of the harshest realities I have witnessed in the disability community is that disabilities segregate and separate from one another.
We all are fighting for the same pot of money the same rights under the ADA so why not all of us fight together on the same team for all people with disabilities and be 56,000,000 and for an unbeatable power house team of survivors that just simply believes that discrimination of any type is wrong!!!!

Barbara joined the Peace Corps at age 62, really! Her inner spirit for helping others in Honduras helped to soften her grief from losing a son, foster son and husband.
Barbara will be sharing her experiences in the Peace Corps and how it touched her heart and soul to help others. Public service, giving back, and learning humanitairian principles are the core of this volunteer program. There is always a need for volunteers no matter what your age or profession. Are you at the crossroads in your life and not sure what to do next? Perhaps take a step back and out of your usual path and learn the real reason for human existence, love, caring and compassion.
This is the link to Barbara's blog where she continues to write about her experiences. Here is the website of the non-profit, totally volunteer medical team project to Honduras with which she participates yearly. Please note: volunteers and donations are always in great need.
How do we empower others? Can we actually empower others? If a person is negative all the time how can we help them change that to empowerment? Do we loose some of our own empowerment by helping others or do we become stronger by doing so? Suggestions are powerful but only if they are made in a positive light.
As always you can reach us via email @ firstname.lastname@example.org or via our webpage at lnbp2e.com We welcome any suggestions you have for the show or any upcoming shows.
Sometimes in the rat race of life we allow ourselves to become disconnted from that inner thread that connects one another. Today we are going to foucs on how to move from our brains and into our hearts. Experiences lead us down the road of inner balance, peace, and harmony and when we help one another without motive or expectation we find oursleves in our true essence.
Growing HOPE begins with a foundation of #wisdom and #knowledge. On today's show we will begin talking about the path to widsom and knowledge through #Proverbs 2. The original music of Karen Newsum will help us to understand that we are all in this together. Be sure to listen live, or through the archives and then share you own ideas about Proverbs 2, helping each other on this journey, and tips for building a foundation of widsom and knowledge.
