Today's Topic: In the African American community Mental Illness is not recognized as a real disease. Many times black men and women harbor this illness and are afraid or don't know where to get help. It oftentimes leads to an act that can never be corrected. Perhaps it's the murder of a child, a stranger, sometimes themselves. The reality is that it exists and it will not go away just because we ignore it. Join us live 7:30CST! You can also call to listen or to get involved in the conversation at 347-327-9682!

With mental illness affecting roughly 1 in 17 Americans, this 8-week series targets the way our nation and its churches confront the conversation surrounding mental illness and is designed to clarify broad misperceptions and shed a new light on the topic - Biblically and psychologically. The National Institute of Mental Health reports that one in four adults, approximately 57.7 million Americans experience a mental health disorder in a given year.
The series includes professionals who discuss such topics as the six stages of grief, chemical imbalances, the effects of mental health disorders on a child's education, and suicide. Additional discussions include pastors, leadership and members within the church who suffer from mental illness. The workshop is hosted by Pastor Seneca who leads the discussion utilizing Biblical references of mental illness. Reference John 9.
The workshop series also includes featured guests, psychiatric doctors, therapists, couples, teachers and families that have encountered and live within mental illness circumstances.
