I am continuing my audio blog, moving away from my experiences with my journey with my mother to patient and healthcare stories. It is my hope that these stories will be informative and instructive. When you hear them, you may think, is she making this up. No, they are real.
On this week's program, hosts Andrew Dietz and Doug Field welcome special guests from DentaQuest and Johnson & Johnson Health and Wellness Solutions to the program to talk oral health, dental insurance, digital health, workplace wellness and more.
The first guest this week will be Steven Pollock, CEO, DentaQuest, the second largest dental benefits administrator in the United States. Even with increased access to medical insurance coverage thanks to the ACA, 83 million Americans face barriers to dental care. And over 50 million Americans live in areas with insufficient dental care. In this segment, Steven will share DentaQuest's commitment and plans to reduce oral health disparities. Oral health is a key component of overall health, and dental disease is almost completely preventable.
For the second segment, the hosts will talk with Rich Bedrosian, Ph.D., Director, Behavioral Health, and Bobbi Coluni, Head of Strategic Product Management, Johnson & Johnson Health and Wellness Solutions. Technology-based health management is not a trend, but rather, a critical tool in the efforts to improve population health. In this segment, Bobbi, Rich and the hosts will discuss how to define success when engaging consumers through connected health, some best practices in the connected health market and much more.
On this week's show, hosts Doug Field and Andrew Dietz are live in the studio with special guests from Limelight Health – a Silicon Valley startup – and Liberty Mutual – a Fortune 100 company – for conversations on technology, voluntary benefits, private exchanges and much more.
The first guest is Michael Lujan, co-founder of Limelight Health, a Silicon Valley-based technology company aimed to help simplify health insurance. In this interview, Michael and the hosts will discuss how technology is changing benefits and HR for the better. Technology is disrupting many industries, impacting how we get around (Uber) and where we stay (Airbnb). On the other hand, the health insurance and the human resource industries have been dependent on paper forms and fax machines for far too long. Both industries are going through radical changes, and Silicon Valley is investing billions to help modernize the process and help us become more informed, engaged and connected consumers.
The second guest on this week's show will be Ryan Thomson, director of private exchanges at Liberty Mutual Insurance, the number one employer-sponsored group voluntary auto and home program in the country. As voluntary benefits continue to play an increasingly important role in employers benefit programs and strategies, employers are turning to a number of “non-traditional” benefit offerings like pet insurance, legal services and auto & home programs in an effort to appeal to and engage diverse workforces. In this segment, Ryan and the hosts will discuss how employers are integrating discounted auto & home programs into their benefits strategy as well as some of the benefits these programs can provide to both employers and employees.

Howard Block and I will be discussing how to talk about end of life care with a loved one, patient or friend. It can be difficult to know how to approach the topic and exactly what to say. We will discuss why it shouldn't be a conversation with only your doctor but also your family. Why is it important? It is a topic no one wants to have but it can be so helpful knowing what a loved onewants when death is near. We both have had the experience of working with people who knew what they wanted and others who didn't. We have learned the importance of this conversation and how it helps families. We are talking about people saying exactly how much care they want whether full code or not. We hope to remove some of the fear and uncertainty that people experience. It is our goal for listeners to know it is their choice.
With FORUM West just on the other side of the weekend, host Doug Field brings listeners a special pre-conference episode of HealthCare Consumerism Radio. Special guests from ConnectYourCare, Interactive Health and SpendWell Health will discuss topics ranging from HSAs to wellness to retail health care.
The first guest on this week's program will be Allen Pease, the chief business development officer at ConnectYourCare. The second guest on the program will be Cathy Kenworthy, president and CEO of Interactive Health, the country’s leading provider of health management solutions. In a constantly changing industry, innovation is vital to staying relevant. In this segment, Cathy joins us to discuss how innovation is changing the workplace wellness landscape today.
For the third and final segment, the hosts will welcome Marcee Chmait, president of SpendWell Health, to the program. By eliminating the “middle man” and bringing patients and doctors together directly, the beauty of a true supply-demand economic principles take shape ultimately reducing health care cost and putting the control back in the hands of the health care consumer. Consumers can purchase health care services at known prices and providers can serve consumers before payers and take control of the supply side of the marketplace. In this interview, Marcee and the hosts will discuss the simplicity of a supply-demand marketplace and how it is applicable and necessary in the health care industry.
