As Christmas rolls around another year, the usual joy which is associated with it is here as well. People wishing you Merry Christmas and or happy holidays are commonplace if only for formality's sake. But the truth of the matter is that it is not always associated with joy this time of year and it is not always with light hearts that we come into the season of commemorating Christ's birth. Join us as we talk about obtaining happiness, the sadness and the importance of an emotional balance in life. Visit and share our website and our page by going to Kingdom United Ministries Network You are welcome!
Alzheimer's Speaks Radio is about having a simple conversation about life with dementia. We want all voices to have equal say and would love for you to join us. You can do so by using the chat box or calling in live to the station.
Today we will be discussing tips for having a joyful holiday season. We would love for you to join the conversation and share what has worked and what has not; and what you have learned along the way on your own personal journey with dementia. By sharing our knowledge we can make the path a bit more pleasant for the next person. So many times we forget the wealth of knowledge we have gained on this journey with dementia. Here on Alzheimer's Speaks we like to empower people to share their insights and help others.

Everyone wants to have more in their life. You want to have the car, the house, the relationship, and to lead a life on your terms. Yet when you have all of this are you happy?
In this show Paula T will explore these questions with you? What is the reason we are never happy with what we have in our life? Always chasing that next shiny thing that you think will bring you the happiness you really need.
Is there an answer to this question? Perhaps there is. We will see. Paula T want to talk to you about this. Call in to talk.
What happens when we realize just how unique other people are? Our special guest, Heather Bruce, will share her personal experiences of having a child with special needs; her son, Karcher, has autism. Heather works for the Anchorage School District as a special education teacher assistant for the ACE Program (Alternative Community Education). She is also the sister of former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, and we anticipate she will have much wisdom to share with us on our topic. Join us as we talk about autism and other news from around the country.

The cap and gown is symbolic for many reasons. It is a sign of accomplishment, endurance, and fortitude. Through difficulty, trial, and sleepless nights, the graduate succeeded in obtaining a higher education. We've all had the opportunity to be proud of a loved one we know persevered through many odds. One of my good friends recently graduated with a degree of higher learning. I was happy for her because I knew the obstacles she'd gone through. The pitfalls & dark days where getting that degree was nigh impossible.
Lets imagine for a moment we are the graduate. As we take our place in line to receive our degree, we look out into the sea of faces. Our grandmothers and grandfathers who can't read or write are sitting there, tears in their eyes. We look and see our mothers and fathers who worked several jobs to pay for our education. Further back, we see figures shrouded in darkness with chains of slavery or lacy parasols of inequality that prevented them from learning how to read and write. We look and see blood stains on those nameless ancestors who died in an effort to become more than a society told them they could be. We take another step and reach out for that degree. At once we realize our success comes from the blood of our fathers.Join me as I talk with best-selling, award-winning author Piper Hughley as we discuss the impact of our ancestors in our writing and our lives.
