Welcome to the Gateway to the Redwoods! The setting tonight is at the Mendocino County Museum and Skunk Train Depot in Willits, CA, and this weekend is all about celebrating the past with a Handcar Race, Beard and Mustache competition, and all the goings-on all at the annual Kinetic Carnivale.
Kinectic Energy is all about motion and the energy that a body possesess because of it. In mathmatical terms, it's equal to the mass of the body times the square of its speed...got it?
Just after the California Gold Rush, and before the San Fransisco Earthquake, transportation was primarily horse, human and a lot of steam. Early Californians were a hardy bunch, and the Kinetic Carnivale, taking place this weekend, brings us a back to a time of Steam Trains, Gold Miners, Handlebar Mustaches, Moonshine and Wild Women!
Alot of this is still recognizable in an area of Northern California called, The Gateway to the Redwoods and all taking place in what is known as the Kinetic Carnival.
They call the Kentucky Derby the most exciting two minutes in sports, and for many racing fans, it's certainly among the most memorable. In this week's series of short Derby Moments podcasts, we'll visit with several racing folks for their fondest Kentucky Derby memories. We'll meet:
someone who cashed big when a horse narrowly avoided a serious fall;
someone who tells you what it was like to be on the roof of the grandstand when Mine That Bird won the Derby at 50-1 odds;
someone who parlayed his Kentucky Derby winnings into, of all things, a new dog;
In this episode: Keith Feustle, who is on the Equibase team that produces the official charts, talks about what it's like to call the chart while 20 horses turn for home and 160,000 fans lose their minds.

Michael Edelman, Esq., political analyst guides us in distilling and thereby understanding the ever changing landscape via-a-vis the U.S. presidential primary candidates vying to become POTUS. Edelman surmises the expected result of the Indiana Primary races of Tuesday, May 2nd. We'll into whether Kasich's staying in the race has enabled Trump to likely win the GOP nomination. Will Sanders be able to hold on the voters, especially in States that permit Independent voters and thereby winning primaries that Hillary thought she would win?
Bill Brunelle, co-founder of Independent We Stand updates us on his effort when he joins the broadcast at 11:30am

SHOOTOUT ON THE HOOSIER STATE HARDWOOD
In the last few grim hours before the Indiana primary blasts into orbit, Ted Cruz savagely attempts to figure out how to dodge the bullet like a varmint with a paw in a trap. Cruz is increasingly desperate to salvage what might be his only real opportunity to ever be president Teddy II. In interviews, Cruz doggedly rejects the idea his race is over and he does not have a realistic shot. Ted now writhes like a drowning tequila worm before a last shot.
Trump seems near bliss as he confidently points out Cruz will be finally and truly dead as a witch with a house on her after Indiana. Here Donald is up a robust 15 points, on his way towards an improbable win. Trumps delegates are over 1000 building exponentially. And while lyin Ted did finagle AZ delegates unearned, as well elsewhere, a new trend emerges. Many purported Cruz delegates, not wanting a potential crisis, are rethinking Teddy Bare. Since IN and NJ will go Trump, and CA should offer at least 100 delegates, he just needs 30 from the rest.
Meanwhile, the lost yet preternaturally smug president enjoyed his last Correspondent’s Dinner. It's at these events Barack is most at home, as here he doesn’t have to feign experience or knowledge. Instead, while mugging and acting the hotshot, the prez can luxuriate amongst the folks who have truly had his back and enabled him, come rain or shine, all these years. But Comedian Larry Wilmore actually poked fun at the pompous POTUS, comparing him to Grady from Sanford & Son. Obama seemed stunned when Wilmore ended with the N-Word.
Lastly, scientists inform us there are innumerable societies across the universe. This is using the famed Drake Equation. But if they’re out there, where have they been hiding? Could it be they're merely awaiting for this most exciting of presidential races in history to get finished? Well, that’s as good an explanation as any!
