"Up Close & Personal" with Mr. Guitar " David P. Stevens"

    in Entertainment

A versatile musician, Stevens grew up playing piano, drums and guitar at the Church of God, developing a dynamic performance style playing gospel music. He spent his teens playing in jazz and gospel bands, and developed sound and stage presence like one of his idols, Norman Brown, when he later emerged as an urban jazz artist. As his fan base grew with his early album releases, Stevens went from playing “any dive bar where they allowed jazz” in Philly to top clubs like North By Northwest, Warm Daddy’s and Relish. He and his band also played at various clubs down in Maryland, as well as the Woodrow Wilson Festival and the iconic Blues Alley club in Washington, DC.

Stevens has also performed at The Harlem Meer Festival, at The Iridium in NYC with Alex Bugnon, and the Jazz Base in Reading, PA. Over the past two years, he also did a full European tour through Austria, Switzerland and Germany. In addition to playing on the Capital Jazz SuperCruise, he has been part of the All-Star Jam Festival at Berks Jazz Fest the past three years, sharing the stage with such luminaries as Gerald Albright, Nick Colionne and Scott Ambush from Spyro Gyra. “One of the things I’m known for live is bringing a lot of energy to the stage and incorporating many exciting elements, including background singers,” Stevens says.

Please join host Frankie Picasso for a very special show on Thursday August 27th when my guest is Police Constable Gareth Ward who is campaigning diligently to help his super hero buddy, 5 year old Luke Brewer and family fly to America where Luke will be treated for cancer in October.

Luke was recently diagnosed with Rabdomysocoma, a type of sarcoma that attacks connective tissue and usually hits children 1 to 5 years old.  As treatment is unavailable in the UK, Luke and his family need to come to the USA and the course of therapy will take 7 weeks.

Gareth hopes to raise enough to bring the family for treatment and have a little left over to send Luke to Disneyland as a special treat for the brave little man.

To date, Gareth has been able to raise a little over £1000, but this is still a long way off the target of £2000 he needs.

In addition to the Go Fund ME site:     http://gofundme.com/lukethesuperhero     Gareth is also planning to raise money by participating in a 9bar9x9 running event in Luke’s name. This is an 81km endurance run held in Guildford, Kent, UK, on 10 October and Gareth will be running it in full police gear weighing approximately 42 lbs. In addition to all of this, Gareth also designed some amazing super hero wrist bands that are also a fund raiser and can be purchased on Facebook by going to https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=427589130758195&id=232219716961805

Please join us to help raise money for Luke and CALL US to send your POSITIVE MESSAGES of LOVE to Luke who I know will listen to the show and love to hear your words of encouragement.

John Carver Show - Unbelievable Focus

    in Self Help

I cannot get over the intensity of some people to stay focused for years and decades until they reach what they’re striving for in life.
“Be on guard. The road widens, and many of the detours are seductive.” ? David Foster Wallace
    “Knowing the Techniques of Survival........
Life has a way of knocking you off balance and even knocking you down from time to time.
There’s many verses, in the Bible, that talk about focus.
Psalm 42:1-2 - “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?”
Can you hear the desperation on the writers words?
    Psalm 63:1-4The Message (MSG)
A David Psalm, When He Was out in the Judean Wilderness
    63 God—you’re my God!
I can’t get enough of you!
I’ve worked up such hunger and thirst for God,
traveling across dry and weary deserts.
2-4 So here I am in the place of worship, eyes open,
drinking in your strength and glory.
In your generous love I am really living at last!
My lips brim praises like fountains.
    I bless you every time I take a breath;
My arms wave like banners of praise to you.
Desperation, many times, causes intense focus!
Washington Post (Feb 2014) - Earlier this week, fishermen near the Marshall Islands in the western Pacific found 37-year-old Jose Salvador Alvarenga adrift in a 23-foot fiberglass boat. Alvarenga had a fantastic story: He'd been lost at sea for 13 months, after setting off for a day of shark fishing near the Mexican coast where he lives, 5,500 miles away. Some have expressed skepticism about his story, but he would have been far from the first to endure such seemingly unendurable odds.
