I'm taking this one solo tonight. I'm only professionally sumarizing the Tigers/Athletics 4-game series opener in Oakland and Game 2 of the AHL Calder Cup Playoffs Western Conference Finals series between our Grand Rapids Griffins and the Utica Comets. The Tigers get shut out 4-0, but the Griffins take a commanding 4-0 lead and hold on for a 4-2 win to even that series at 1 game apiece heading back home to Van Andel Arena.
Ed Smith returns tonight to co-host with me. We talk the last 2 games of the Astros/Tigers series at Comerica Park and see where the Tigers stand in the American League Central Division. The Tigers travel to Oakland and take on the Athletics in a 3-game series starting tomorrow afternoon on Memorial Day at 4:05.
The Grand Rapids Griffins play Game 1 of the 2015 AHL Calder Cup Playoffs Western Conference Finals in Utica against the Comets tonight. Who sets the tone?
I ask Ed what he thinks about FOX 2 and FOX Sports Detroit teaming up to broadcast Lions preseason games.
The Tigers and Kansas City Royals begin Round 2, a 3-game series at Comerica Park. David Price will start on the pitcher's mound against Yordano Ventura. Tomorrow's contest will begin at 1:08 on FOX Sports 1. (Channel 150 on DISH Network)
Did the Grand Rapids Griffins take a 2-0 series lead with a win over the Rockford Icehogs at Van Andel Arena? Or is the series tied at 1 heading to Rockford (Griffinville)? We'll discuss Rockford being turned into Griffinville before the series began.
The Lions sign 5 draft picks and 12 undrafted free agents.
A Mike Babcock update from the DSR.
Ed Smith and I analyze the Tigers' rout of the Minnesota Twins in the rubber finale of the 3-game series at Comerica Park. We also preview the upcoming series with the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium.
The Grand Rapids Griffins and Rockford Icehogs face off in Game 4 of the AHL Western Conference Semifinals in the 2015 Calder Cup Playoffs. The Griffins led the series 2-1 going into the contest. Game 5 is Sunday at 5.
The Lions hire 3 men into their front office and sign defensive lineman Corey Wootton to a 1-year deal, the Michigan State Spartans Football team recruits another 3-star player, and Red Wings great Gordie Howe announces the construction of his self-named International Bridge from USA to Canada and will have a second round of stem cell treatments.
The Tigers try to complete a 3-game sweep of the Cardinals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball. Alfredo Simon starts on the pitcher's mound against Lance Lynn, who has improved his pitching velocity lately.
2015 Calder Cup Playoffs: The Grand Rapids Griffins finish off the Rockford Icehogs in 5 games with a 5-3 win on the road. They will take on either the Utica Comets or the Oklahoma City Barons in the Western Conference Finals.
Mike Babcock update: The San Jose Sharks are scheduled to talk with Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock.
The Tigers and Minnesota Twins play the middle game of the 3-game series at Comerica Park with Kyle Lobstein and Ricky Nolasco on the mound, as the race in the American League Central Division standings keeps heating up in the middle of May.
The Grand Rapids Griffins take a 2-0 series lead to Rockford and take on the Icehogs in Game 3 of the AHL Western Conference Semifinals in the 2015 Calder Cup Playoffs. They have yet to win a playoff game on the road. Did they win one on the road tonight?
The Lions work out safety Glover Quin's option to clear $2.17 million in cap space, sign 2nd-round draft pick Ameer Abdullah to a 4-year, $4.16 million deal, and sign former Chiefs cornerback Chris Owens and former Jets wide receiver Greg Salas to 1-year deals. Plus, Stephen Tulloch is getting better and ready to play in terms of his health.
Michigan Wolverines Football cornerback Blake Countess will transfer for his final season of eligibility after graduating from the university, Dennis Norfleet was NOT dismissed from the Football program; he was suspended, and assistant athletic director Jim Minick was suspended indefinitely for his DUI charge. Their Men's Basketball team will take on the North Carolina State Wolfpack in the upcoming season's Big Ten/ACC Challenge, and former Wolverine Chris Webber has problems with the Fab 5 documentary.
The Michigan State Spartans Football team lands 3-star defensive back Demetric Vance, while their Men's Basketball team is assigned to face the Louisville Cardinals in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
If you've already listened to this week's episode of WIIM Radio, you'll have already noticed a bit of a hole in the middle of the show. We had a timing hiccup this week and couldn't get the prospects report cut into the main episode in time. We don't want you to miss out on it just to miss out though. What we've got here is this week's WIIM Radio Prospects Report.
In this report, Michelle runs down the Griffins' relative return to health and what kind of an affect those injuries have had on the team in the standings lately, since the Griffins have had kind of a roller coaster season so far.
Vili Saarijarvi and the odd case of a bad Flint Firebirds team, along with the odd case of his juniors eligibility and potential for next season.
Svechnikov is hot since returning from the World Juniors. We like hot.
Joe Hicketts and his impact on the Victoria Royals
Dominic Turgeon's offensive growth
Axel Holmstrom's dominance in Sweden
Ehn and Vahatalo
Listener Questions: Mantha/Bertuzzi callups? What's the future for Frk?

Welcome to another episode of WIIM Radio. The Wings are out West, but we're all together in the studio pumping out quality online podcast content for your listening pleasure. We went a bit old school tonight with me, Kyle, Jeff, and Graham chewing the fat that is the ass of the Red Wings lately. Here's what we went over:
The Kings loss and the road trip - The Wings had a loss coming, so we're not terribly bummed out by the loss in Los Angeles. Hopefully the loss will reset the less-than-stellar play leading up to it.
The cap situation - Elliotte Friedman explained what Ken Holland meant about the "$66M" cap in regards to the timing of Pavel Datsyuk going on LTIR. We try to make sense of it all in regards to what exactly they can and can't spend.
Drew Miller tinfoil time - If he gets a contract this summer, you know for damn well certain it has something to do with the timing of his torn meniscus. I'm not saying, I'm just saying...
Kyle Quincey, playing seven defensemen, and Smith sucked again - What is the plan for the defense going forward and what was the plan for the defense on Monday night? Should Kyle Quincey get pillow-soft usage? Should the pairings be mixed again? Will I ask any more rhetorical questions where the obvious answer is yes? Tune in and find out.
WTF Gustav Nyquist - 10 games without a goal and only 16 shots on goal during that period. What the hell, man?
Prospects Report - Michelle walks us through all the happy-haps in prospects land, including what's going down with the Griffins of late.
Reader Questions - You asked a bunch of good questions and we gave probably 80% good answers. That's pretty efficient if you ask me.
The week ahead - Listen to Jeff crap on all your dreams.
As always, WIIM Radio is rated R.
We recap the middle game of the 3-game series between the Tigers and Chicago White Sox. Alfredo Simon was scheduled to start on the pitcher's mound against Chris Sale. Their offense really needs to pick up some steam.
The Grand Rapids Griffins take a 1-0 series lead over the Rockford Ice Hogs with a 5-3 win at Van Andel Arena. Teemu Pulkkinen scored a hat trick.
I allow my co-host Ed Smith himself share his thoughts on the Floyd mayweather/Manny Pacquiao boxing fight last Saturday. Mayweather offers Pacquiao a rematch for next year.
Mayweather was sued for $20 million by his mother of his 3 children in defamation lawsuit yesterday.
Still reeling off the third period collapse to the Sabres, we had me, Graham, Lauren, Prashanth and Michelle to get us caught up on the Red Wings and Griffins this week. Here's a quick rundown of what we went over.
The Buffalo loss and the Red Wings' third period woes. It's getting pretty tiring watching the Wings keep doing this, so what's the root cause? Are they playing to extend or protect leads.
Tomas Tatar and some real tough defensive play by him lately.
The defensive logjam - when Quincey comes back. What to do? If Scuderi can get moved, can anybody? (oh hey, BTW, Rob Scuderi got traded AND had salary retained). We all agree that it's very important to keep Marchenko around.
Prospects report - Michelle covers the streaking Griffins and the players from elsewhere, including some WJC stuff for us.
Reader questions - Expansion, Sheahan, Team construction, Marchenko, Cherry, Datsyuk, and more!
The week ahead: How will the Wings do against their Western Canadian foes?
As always, WIIM Radio is rated R for language. You can write your congressperson to complain if you'd like. In fact, please do. I'd like to see a form letter promising to look into this scourge.
That is right, tonight it is just the Counter Jihadists Partners-in-Crime, Tim and Kel, left to their own devices. Some days we DO feel all alone, it is like,"HELLO, is this Mic on, Dhimmis?"
We of course welcome you as callers if you'd like to join us on the air. We have some very interesting topics to impart... (Oh, BTW, Islamists are pussies, sorry to break the news, Folks...)
Welcome to Infidels Are Watching, with Tim Burton and Kel Fritzi, where we strive to educate about a threat…called Political Islam. We ARE the Freedom Loving Infidels.
We don't offer honourifics to the mohammedans here. They are simply known as The Scourge.
We give you the tools to do the homework, and further educate others in the hope that there will be a united Global Understanding in that Islam continues to be the greatest threat facing Western Democracies today.
