This is a place for spouses of veterans to easily access information and share the ups and downs of leaving the military lifestyle.
We all heard the term at one point on another during our spouse's time in the military. Household 6.We were the support group, caretaker, wife/husband, launder, chef, friend, and a plethora of other hats. Our spouse has gotten out, but the above jobs haven't dissipated, in fact for many it has become harder. Both the veteran and the spouse are adjusting. This is a safe place to help process that adjustment. After realizing how little support is available for veteran's spouses, we decided to do something about it.We are bringing resources such as ETS'ing information, disability information, little to no cost counseling, reading material, blogs, career information (including companies that hire and companies that help with resume writing), PTSD/TBI support, businesses you can locally support that are veteran or veteran spouse owned,K9 organization,as well as better known sources such as the VA,American Legion, and DAV into one place. From the minute the military member transitions to a veteran, this is where you can go for reliable and helpful information. Our goal is to unite the veteran community and provide families with the necessary resources to thrive upon leaving the military.

Legacy Of 1804 with New Film on Maurice Bishop and Grenada Revolution

    in Culture

Host Alice Backer of www.kiskeacity.com and Michelle Materre, founder of Creatively Speaking Film Series and host of Creativey Speaking on the Air  welcome Bruce Paddington, maker of the documentary Forward Ever.  The film investigates the Grenadian revolution of 1979 which culminated in the killing of Maurice Bishop and several of his colleagues in 1983. (Bruce is with us for the first half hour.)

We are then joined by Trinidadian-American trade unionist Roger Toussaint and cultural activist Martin Felix, who came of age in Grenada during the revolution, to explore aspects of this oft neglected chapter of Caribbean history. How was this movement for self-determination launched in the pre-social media era? Why did Reagan take exception to the building of an international airport in Grenada? Did US involvement start at the post-killing invasion or was the Grenadian movement for self-determination infiltrated and destabilized?

Originally aired on Creatively Speaking On the Air June 18, 2014.

Forward Ever will be screening FREE Friday June 20 at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn at 6PM and again at 4PM Saturday June 21 at Maisles Theater in Harlem.

The Buffalo Soldier - Thomas Elzey Polk, Sr. with Erwin Polk

    in History

History has always been a favorite subject for Erwin, and his genealogy research made it possible for him to be interviewed live by Bryant Gumble on the Friday July 3, 1993 “Today Show.”  He has been featured in the Wilmington News Journal in 1996, regarding the history of his family and a memorial service for his great grandfather Thomas Elzey Polk Sr. a 9th Cavalry Regiment soldier (a Buffalo Soldier). He has been interviewed for another News Journal Article for the Sunday August 16, 2009 edition regarding a celebration of 200 years of Freedom in the United States by his Polk Ancestors.

Erwin Polk is constantly working on genealogy projects and in 1997 made a break through in discovering the ancestors of a childhood friend and neighbor also named Polk.  His findings which started from the name of a Northwestern Pennsylvania town and the name of one person has taken the research back to 1825 Delaware and numerous stories about the Underground Railroad and escapes from slavery.

Erwin’s genealogy and historical research projects have included many states such as: North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Tennessee, Texas, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Illinois.  He has also researched information from England, Trinidad, Canada, Grenada, Poland and Germany at various times.

Thomas Elzey Polk, Sr. the oldest son of Morris and Rebecca Black Polk, served in the United States 9th Cavalry Regiment Company C, from 1882 until 1892.  He was a Buffalo Soldier in the Indian Territory of the West and earned the rank of sergeant during both of his enlistments.  Thomas Polk earned a pension for his ten years of service in the Indian Territories.

Voices InJustice - Giving praise to our Veterans - Warriors for Freedom

    in Current Events

Voices InJustice honoring our Veterans.... Sunday beginning at 7pm eastern time, please join in with Trish as we give praise to the warriors who protect us everyday. We depend on our Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Religion, Freedom to seek happiness & live our daily life without threat; we would not enjoy any of this without the soldiers who defend us everyday.

I've been a military wife, moved half way around the world and gave birth to two children while tour in the U.K., it is difficult being a new parent when you have family around you, even more challenging when your spouse is a soldier getting stationed some place new every three or four years and trying to settle your children into a new place on a regular basis. When we left the U.K. and went to Netherlands, it was right at the Grenada battle and the Dutch Marines strip searched me & my babies as we entered the airport customs. It was a terrifying 12mons over there where we couldn't speak the language or communicate with our families. This is a sacrifice that millions of Military Families give to protect our daily freedom. Tonight we invite anyone who would like to praise their special soldier, share a story, share your tour time and the battles that have caused so many to suffer with injury, loss of life, and the haunting triggers of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Think of what they have been through and how long their tour in battle to make sure no harm comes to American soil.

Marines, Navy, Air Force, Army our respect for all you give to our country everyday. This show is in your honor. Thank you all for your service and your families for the sacrifice they suffer with you.

Our phones & chatroom will be open and we hope many will join this show. We are for entertainment and outreach support as part of Butterfly Dreams Abuse Recovery. Thank you for supporting us
