Stop the FDA Stealth Attack on Your Dietary Supplements!

    in Health

Scott Tips, president and legal counsel for the National Health Federation (NHF), will tell us how harmonized global standards are enabling overall reduced vitamin and mineral levels in pill and food form. In February, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) proposed changes to both the current Nutrition Facts panel on food labels and Supplement Facts panel on dietary supplement labels that prompt concern.

“While the food industry, media and general public focus on the proposed format changes, new wording and label design, there’s a danger to our health in the FDA harmonizing our Reference Daily Intake (RDI) of vitamin and mineral levels down to the extremely low levels of the Codex Alimentarius, which our organization has fought against for more than a decade,” advises Tips.

If the proposed rulemaking is adopted, the NHF anticipates that the FDA will work to conform other recommended nutrient values to those of Codex. Support for this projection is based on an October 11, 1995, FDA pronouncement in the Federal Register to harmonize its food laws with those of the rest of the world.

Voice your concerns NOW before it's too late. Write to the FDA at the Division of Dockets Management (HFA-305), Food and Drug Administration, 5360 Fishers Lane, Rm. 1061, Rockville, MD 20852. Mention Docket No. FDA-2012-N-1210, to insist that the FDA cease pushing its harmonization agenda. For more information, visit Tinyurl.com/NHFCaseForNutrients.

Two-time Cancer Survivor Kathy Bero on The Healing Properties of Food

    in Health

Kathy Bero’s degrees in Journalism and Environmental Sciences from the University of Wisconsin -- Madison, have made her uniquely qualified as the founder of NuGenesis Farm. As a two-time cancer survivor, her battle with stage 4 inflammatory breast cancer and a rare high-grade epidermoid carcinoma in her parotid gland have led her to a deep understanding that true health care reform begins with the type of foods we eat.

Kathy has written many educational works including the national award-winning curriculum “It’s All Connected” and the children’s book A Place at the Fire.  After a ten-year advocacy career with the Great Lakes Alliance, Ice Age Park & Trail Foundation, 1,000 Friends of Wisconsin and several years of television production work, Kathy began her battle with cancer.  The healing properties of food became a part of her personal treatment plan as well as a roadmap for her present advocacy work.  Ms. Bero’s innovative concept of the NuGenesis Farm not only gives her the place to focus her talents as an organizer, communicator and consensus builder but also the opportunity to bring the most recent research findings to the general public. Kathy will discuss some of the exciting results from the University of Wisconsin—Wukesha/NuGenesis Research Pilot Project Report Volunteer/Gardening and Health.

Ms. Bero executive produced the double Emmy Award winning 1998 documentary “Worth Fighting For” and has received many state and national awards for her work as an environmental agent of change.  She has served on many local and national boards of directors along with the environmental policy committees for U.S. senators.
