Our guest this morning is James Talmage Stevens, aka Doctor Prepper™.
James has been primed for his career in the preparedness industry since he was a child.
In 1974, upon finishing graduate school with 4 young children and no prospects for a job due to economic conditions, James reverted to his past experiences on the farm and chronicled them in a notebook, along with some hand-me-down recipes from his mother and grandmother.
Noting there were no viable books that dealt with all the basics, i.e. a broad range of food products, he began to utilize his analytical skills, organizing handwritten notes, recipes and food lore into one volume of information.
In 1974, during his spare time while job-hunting, Making the Best of Basics was created. Before going to press, the subtitle Family Preparedness Handbook was added to distinguish his book from the emergency preparedness genre of the existing Civil Defense and governmental agency information. Making the Best of Basics is now in its 11th edition.
James is the award winning host of ‘Preparedness Radio Network’ and can be found right here on Blog Talk Radio.

Today, August 25, 2014, we will have one of our newest HFR Hosts Queen Tahiyrah as our Guest Host for Rules of the Game. The topic will be Norman Kelley's book The Head Negro in Charge Syndrome: The Dead End of Black Politics (Nation Books) Paperback – May 20, 2004. In this book Brother Kelley discusses Al Sharpton’s entrance into the 2004 Democratic presidential race is evidence of a decaying black political culture where ego trumps politics. It is the last gasp of a tradition that has been transformed over a generation from bold, effective and results-oriented politics to rhetoric and symbolism, argues crime writer and social commentator Norman Kelley. As Kelley shows, what Sharpton covets is the sobriquet—The Head Negro in Charge (HNIC), a symbolic political mobilization that replaces effective politics and organizing. “The HNIC syndrome has seen the rise of symbolic leaders—Jesse Jackson, Louis Farrakhan, Sharpton and now Russell Simmons—who may be charismatic,” Kelley writes, “but are politically unaccountable to the very people they claim to represent, namely African Americans. The transformation has been underway since the 1970s, but most African Americans have yet to confront it.” HNIC syndrome is both a symptom and response to the failings of black political and cultural orthodoxy, of a sclerotic black elite represented by the NAACP and the Black Congressional Caucus, who have embedded themselves into the machinery of the Democratic Party and the conservative movement.

How did we get to the point where rules are being made and enforced by unseen, nameless, faceless folks in inner offices of Washington? Where did it go wrong? Mike Slack and Dave meet again to discuss the need to get back to the intent of the founders - and in a hurry. Daily freedom is being sucked out of you and your family. Obamacare is just a fatal symptom of the larger problem. The federal government claims ownership of the very air that you breathe and the water that falls from the sky into your field. There is really only one way back. State Sovereignty!
