The Best of 2015: What Did We Gain From Politics and Social Activism?

    in Women

This week we're looking back at our top shows of 2015. On Mondays, we have featured issues and people who spearheaded social activism or ran for political office. What gains did we make in the areas of politics? Have our protests been successful? What guests inspired you during the year? Did the youth who protested in Ferguson spark the nationwide protests against police brutality? With all the protests, have there been any political or economic gains? What should we possibly be doing differently to change policies, procedures and even people in charge? Our guests today, Jedidiah Brown of Young Leaders Alliance and Corey Mason,  Darrius Lightfoot of Fearless Leading By The Youth (FLY), reflect on this years activism and where we should go from here.

Mixing Art and Activism. What it is like to do both?

    in Art

    Chicago's Black Business Radio Network

(All Black! All News! All You!)

This segment is Art and Social Justice Issues, a combination some listeners might not be aware of. My goal is to connect you to social justice issues through art.

On today's show, Mixing Art and Activism. What it is like to do both?, we will talking with a long time North Lawndale resident who is exactly that, an artist and activist.

Paul Ramey, former resident of North Lawndale, tells what his current art show is about, what his most recent activism is- the Peace Walk he was on today.  We will ask Paul how he mixes art-making & activism. He will also introduce his idea for a plan he has to begin a non-profit organization to feed and clothe homeless individuals. Paul Ramey grew up in North Lawndale and is now an artist and activist. You can see art and activist in any of his works.

Thank you for listening to Art and Social Justice Issues. I'm Dianna Long and I am about connecting people to social justice issues through art.

If you would like to sponsor one or our upcoming shows, please contact our show's Executive Producer at cesarquiroz379@gmail.com.

V-RADIO invites Aaron Moritz to discuss "Social Justice" in activism.

    in Politics

One of the reasons I wanted to come back on to do V-RADIO is I noticed a disturbing trend that TZM and TVP related activism have been invaded by a lot of thinking that is not in line with what I understand TZM and TVP to be about. "Social Justice Warriors" as some call them do not realize the slippery slope many of them are falling down when they enter activism for what they understand to be good reasons and then slowly turn into what they claim to oppose. I invite Aaron Moritz onto this show to discuss this issue.

If V-RADIO has meant anything in your life, please consider a donation at http://v-radioblog.blogspot.com/ there is a donation widget at the top right.

Is Youth Activism Creating New Voters?

    in Women

Around the country, youth are uprising. Protests of injustice have been intense. Young people are demanding an end to police shootings of unarmed citizens. They are marching, sitting in, "dieting in" and waging economic boycotts. But is anybody registering to vote? Is anybody creating a list of new laws to be introduced and passed into law to change conditions? Has anybody stepped forward to run as the candidate who will replace those who appear apathetic or even hostile to the wishes of the people? Or are we just watching people blow off steam? Protest and empowerment are two different things. In the coming years, elections will have been held and new people will be elected to key positions. Who is strategically planning to take over the seats of authority and control in our cities, states, and federal government? Our guests today, community organizers and strategists, discuss the means of converting protest into power

    Black Future Month

    in Culture

Sankofa means that you look to the past to get what was useful there, and use it to move forward intelligently. February is known in America as Black History Month, but what about our Black future?? We need to know what we want to happen in our future. We need to know about the innovators right now who are creating and producing our future. Should we be following other cultures' ideas about what the future should bring? NO!!! Our future is what we make it...so let's talk about some recipes...

IndieReview Behind The Scenes MAVERICK MOMENT with Author CATO!

    in Entertainment

~~Hello Everyone! My name is Michelle Cornwell Jordan, I am your host!

~~The definition of Maverick is an unorthodox or independent-minded person.

Also called a TrailBlazer! I have the pleasure of chatting with one of these "Thinking Outside The Box Artists"  Urban Fiction Author CATO!

CATO is an author at Lock Down Publications.

Born and raised in Florida, CATO was acclimated to the streets at an early age. A former hustler who had been involved in some gangsta shit during his sojourn out in the streets, CATO attended college and pursued a paralegal degree after doing a short stint in federal prison on a gun charge and has plans to pursue a law degree in the future.

While behind the fence, CATO rediscovered his childhood love for writing stories and began putting together a string of stories that have bestsellers written all over them. A blog talk radio show host and blogger, CATO’s other passions include social activism, poetry, the outdoors, working out, cooking, baking and spending time with family and loved ones.

As of right now, CATO is single, but is currently waiting patiently for the Queen who can help him rule the kingdom. Remember his name and look for big things from him in the future as he makes his pen known in the literary world in different genres. http://www.facebook.com/Cato.Cato.9406 http://twitter.com/AuthorCato http://www.instagram.com/AuthorCato
