May 15 - Saxophonist/Composer/Vocalist - Grace Kelly
Grace Kelly has the dubious distinction of being the youngest ever named for three consecutive years in the annual Downbeat Magazine Critics Poll, as one of the Alto Saxophone Rising Stars, At the tender age of 22, Grace has already graced the stage and/or recorded with a well distinguished group of internationally renouned artists such as Phil Woods, Dave Brubeck, Wynton Marsallis, Esperanza Spalding, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Monty Alexander, Rufus Reid, and the list goes on and on.
This will be my third interview with this talented young lady; and, well, you know what they say, "three's the charm." Join me as Grace will be sharing some exciting news and updates you just do not want to miss.
March 22 - Saxophonist/Vocalist/Composer - Grace Kelly
She's back!!! A couple of years ago, I had the pleasure of interviewing this extremely gifted young lady. She was on fire then, but, she is fully ablaze now. At twenty-one, Grace Kelly has already played with the creme de la creme of music - including Wynton Marsalis, Harry Connick, Jr., and Phil Woods.
Meet Grace Kelly..When it comes to singer/ saxophonist/ composer/ lyricist/ arranger/ producer/ educator Grace Kelly, people seem to be divided into two groups: those who marvel at her proficiency, creativity and ever-accelerating growth, and those who have yet to encounter the 21-year-old wunderkind. The ranks of the former category are growing by the day. Trumpeter and Jazz at Lincoln Center Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis was so impressed with Kelly’s three-night stand as guest of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra that he invited her to join the ensemble at the Kennedy Center’s Eisenhower Theater in Washington, D.C. for Barack Obama's Inauguration Celebration. Harry Connick, Jr. heard Kelly in a master class on a December afternoon and brought her on stage to sit in with his band that night. Since then, Kelly has been voted "Best Jazz Act” in Boston four consecutive years in the FNX/Phoenix Best Music Poll, and then voted Best National Jazz Act in 2012. She has received the ASCAP Foundation’s Young Jazz Composers Award in 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011 and 2013 and won "Jazz Artist of the Year” at the Boston Music Awards in both 2008 and 2010. The 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 Downbeat Critics Poll added to her the list naming her one of the "Alto Saxophone Rising Stars”, the youngest artist ever to be named to the music poll.

Grace Kelly is no stranger to our show. The truth is that she has been with us multiple times - and each visit reveals yet another exciting layer to this multi-talented artist!
Grace turns 22 SOON - and it's almost unbelievable what she has accomplished in her short but productive life. A multiple instrumentalist with a focus on saxophone - singer - composer - arranger - producer and EDUCATOR! Yes, all of that - with truly brilliant mentors who recognized early on that Grace was also blessed with brilliance. Ann Hampton Calloway saw it - so did Lee Konitz and Monty Alexander, who said this: "She is not an artist for Jazz lovers only. But one for the whole world."
Which brings us to the reason for THIS visit! Hah! Grace is so pumped...she had an opportunity to work with a most awe-inspiring producer - a friend of a friend, HUEY LEWIS - and Huey couldn't brag on Grace enough. So, the groundwork was laid for a project - an EP - that would showcase yet another side of the versatile Ms. Kelly that we haven't seen. Grace thought long and hard about how she wanted to do this - and decided that a Kickstarter would serve her best. So that fans and friends could take part in the success story :) And we're going to tell you how YOU can get involved!
This award-winning breath of fresh air has been "doing" this a long time - piano at six, involved in theater and dancing and singing - clarinet in fourth grade and saxophone thereafter. It's not as though Grace was discovered overnight! She has been involved in the music business for quite a while and her playing/performing show that to an astounding level. Many a hard-core perfectionist has melted from her chaming and VAST ability.
Grace Kelly's musical journey is about to get more interesting...join us in The Chat Room on 5/13 and HEAR :-D
June 30 - Jazz Prodigy - Grace Kelly
With more than a half-century of experience in the jazz world, it would be safe to consider Phil Woods not only one of the music’s living legends but a true aficionado of his fellow instrumentalists. So it speaks volumes that the first time he shared the stage with a then-14-year-old Grace Kelly, he was moved to remove his iconic leather cap and place it on her head – the first time he’d ever made such a gesture to a fellow alto saxophonist.
When it comes to saxophonist /vocalist/composer/lyricist/arranger Grace Kelly, people seem to be divided into two groups: those who marvel at her proficiency, creativity and ever-accelerating growth, and those who have yet to encounter the 19-year-old wunderkind. The first round of Gina Devee's The Academy, coaching and business program, has come to a close. With approximately 100 graduating with their Divine Living Coaching Certification, I'm interested in knowing how they have transformed in life and business in the last year.
I'm diving in with some of The Academy Queens and asking questions like, "What was it about Gina's program that had you say, "Yes!"?" as well as, "What were your challenges in letting go of the "practical path" and how did you handle them?" and "What is your best piece of advice for women who are ready to break free of the practical path, discover their passion and share their truth?".

Grace Kelly is Back! She sings. She plays sax. She arranges. She composes. And she’s only 20 years old. Multitalented Grace Kelly knows how to bring sweet music to our ears.
Recognized as a saxophonist, singer, composer, arranger, songwriter, and recording artist with talent like no other at her age Grace Kelly has performed and recorded with the likes of Lee Konitz, Wynton Marsalis, Phil Woods, Hank Jones, The Boston Pops, Harry Connick Jr. among many others. She has appeared at the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, and Symphony Hall in Boston as well as a leader in over 500 jazz clubs and festivals worldwide, including the 2010 Newport Jazz Festival where she opened and the 2010 Montreal Jazz Festival and will return to both festivals again in 2011.
??With SEVEN CDs to her credit, Grace is preparing for another exciting benefit concert on September 28th at Bethel AME Church in Boston. The Concert is a musical tribute to the civil rights and anti-apartheid movements.
We will also dive right into presidential politics and discuss the latest campaign tactics between President Barack Obama and Governor Mitt Romney. Voter suppression laws in states including Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Ohio could have heavy consequences in communities of color. And the perspective of some voters who don’t think President Obama is “one of us,” including the Birthers question whether a Black president will ever be accepted in all communities throughout America.
The ultimate question: Why does RACE still matter in the United States of America???
