Heliosaga- “Towers In The Distance” is the anticipated album rooted deep in European tradition, combining the best elements of power, symphonic, and gothic metal. Drawing comparisons from such bands as Xandria, Delain, and Leaves Eyes.
The name Heliosaga is a metaphor derived from helios, the Greek word for sun, and saga meaning the story/ history; thus, Heliosaga represents the journey of life.
“Towers In The Distance” lyrics are deeply personal, and the primary themes revolve around the state of the world, mortality and the personal struggles that all encounter. Mixed by Michael Hansen (Phonomik, Chainfist) at Phon Studio and mastered by Jacob Hansen (Epica, Volbeat) at Hansen Studios. Bass guitar tracks were recorded by Chad Novell (Fibonacci Sequence) and a guest guitar solo was performed by Gilbert Pot (Elegy).
Heliosaga was founded in 2010 by Damien Villarreal (keys/guitar) in San Antonio, Texas, soon after joined by Jordan Ames (drums). By September of 2010, the line-up was complete and the first practices were held. The ensuing year would see a five song demo, the first shows and various line-up changes. In 2012, Chelsea Knaack joined as lead vocalist and the band recorded the single “The Light of Ardor”, which was released in January 2013. Shortly before the recorded single was release, the band relocated to Minnesota and continued the writing process.

These Mothers have all lost their Sons to senseless murders. There is no closure when one loses beloved son or daughter to death; particularly when their demise is abrupt, unexpected, and unwarranted. The daily death toll recorded on the pages of the West County Times is controlled by a mysterious, primal, almost gothic aesthetic. The accounts of young Black males shot over a look, an imagined slight, turf, a girl, become a kind of literature, a never-ending, fascinating, horrible, unfolding saga. I yearn for the stories to end.Black males are at greatest risk, Black females are also at risk: In fact, Black females are significantly more at risk over a lifetime than White males.. figures from the Center for Disease Control in Atlanta: "A Black male infant born in 1989 has 1 chance in 27 of dying in a homicide. A Black female has 1 chance in 117 of dying in a homicide. A White male, on the other hand, born in 1989 faces a lifetime risk of 1 in 205. Over the course of her lifetime a White female faces 1 chance in 496 of being murdered..

Carson Buckingham knew from childhood that she wanted to be a writer and began, at age six, by writing books of her own, hand-drawing covers, and selling them to any family member who would pay (usually a dime) for what she referred to as “classic literature.” When she ran out of relatives, she came to the conclusion that there was no real money to be made in self-publishing, so she studied writing and read voraciously for the next eighteen years, while simultaneously collecting enough rejection slips to re-paper her living room…twice.
When her landlord chucked her out for, in his words, “making the apartment into one hell of a downer,” she redoubled her efforts, and collected four times the rejection slips in half the time, single-handedly causing the first paper shortage in U.S. history.
But she persevered, improved greatly over the years, and here we are.
Carson Buckingham has been/is a professional proofreader, editor, anthologist, newspaper reporter, copywriter, technical writer, novelist, short story writer and comedy writer. She loves reading and gardening; but not at the same time. Though born and raised in Connecticut, she lives in Arizona now—and Connecticut is glad to be rid of her!

Lucy Taylor joins us to chat about her latest book "Fatal Journeys" and "A Respite for the Dead". She was born in Richmond, VA, and never really got the South out of her system, as evidenced by the flavor of Southern Gothic in many of her works. She’s published seven novels, including NAILED, SAVING SOULS, and LEFT TO DIE (under the pseudonym Taylor Kincaid), and over 100 short stories.
FATAL JOURNEYS is a collection of stories about travelers who venture into regions both macabre and seductive, on the planet and within the psyche. Featuring eleven stories, including the previously unpublished “Summerland”, “The High and Mighty and Me”, “Soul Eaters”, the novella “How Real Men Die” and an introduction by acclaimed horror author Jack Ketchum, who writes: “…there are places you really shouldn’t go. Places that are dangerous to the heart, mind, and body. And these are the journeys she’s taking you on here. Some very far away geographically. Some much closer to home.… To Iceland where a wandering spirit exacts sorrowful, endless vengeance. To the back roads of Mississippi on the Fourth of July in search of a child-killer…To Thailand to kill your best friend.… So many dangerous places to go.” Visit her website at: www.lucytaylor.us
