ENVISION THIS: Building local, living economies that overcome separation by knitting together a world that has become fragmented and lonely into one that is inclusive, joyful, and strong in its diversity.
Our guest, Judy Wicks, hung a sign saying “Good Morning Beautiful Business” on her closet door to remind herself daily, “Just how beautiful business can be when we put our creativity, care, and energy into producing a product or service the community needs.” She has done just that in her very successful local restaurant, The White Dog Cafe; by helping to create BALLE, the Business Alliance for Local, Living Economies; and through her new book about it all: GOOD MORNING BEAUTIFUL BUSINESS.
Judy believes (and helps us to believe with her) that building a new global economy rests on a simple quality: our capacity to care. “If we really want to change the economy to be more just, we have to bring that change about ourselves, by building that economy from the bottom up...An alignment of values, connection of multiple networks of small producers and businesses has the power to change the world.”
In order to do so we must "Measure our success by growing more ways than physically and financially. We can grow by increasing our knowledge, expanding our consciousness, deepening our relationships, developing our creativity, building community, and enhancing our natural environment." Now there's a beautiful business for you!
