“Earl Javorsky's bold and unusual DOWN SOLO blends the mysterious and the supernatural boldly and successfully. The novel is strong and haunting, a wonderful debut.” – T. Jefferson Parker, New York Times bestselling author of FULL MEASURE and THE FAMOUS AND THE DEAD.
Authors on the Air host Pam Stack welcomes suspense and crime fiction writer Earl Javorsky (also known as Dan Howard). I have to agree with Jeff Parker and say that Dan's books are powerfully intense and immeasurably enjoyable. Here is a little more about "Earl" (and he promises to explain the pen name). " I was born in Berlin and emigrated to the US when I was two. My father had been an aerial photographer under Rommel in North Africa and worked as a cinematographer in NYC. My mother remarried when I was five and we were off to Hollywood, where my step-father had a contract with Paramount. Oddly, he had been a lieutenant in the US Navy off the coast of Italy. I was a weird kid and made the appropriate adjustments. After a long stint trying to make it as a musician in LA and clawing my way up to mid-level management in the chemical entertainment industry (just about killed me), I went back to my first love: writing. I had the good fortune to run into Lou Aronica, my editor at The Story Plant. I work as a proofreader/edito"r (www.theproofreader.org).

Welcome to Episode 12 of Tea at Trianon Radio, dedicated to discussing the life and times of Marie-Antoinette, Queen of France and Navarre. I am Elena Maria Vidal, the author of four historical novels, including TRIANON and MADAME ROYALE which are about Marie-Antoinette and her family. In this our twelfth broadcast, we will be discussing how Marie-Antoinette's portrayals in art influenced her image in the public mind. We will not be taking calls today but do email me a question or a comment at email@example.com.
Tea at Trianon Radio is brought to you by Mayapple Books in St. Michaels, Maryland, dedicated to publishing Modern Classics. Visit Mayapple Books at www.mayapplebooks.net. Much of what we will be discussing today can be found on my Tea at Trianon Blog at http://teaattrianon.blogspot.com and will also be included in my new non-fiction book on Marie-Antoinette entitled Marie-Antoinette, Daughter of the Caesars, to be published in the autumn of 2015 by Mayapple Books.
1) Last words: strategies for getting to the end and writing a good ending.
2) How to avoid “and then” (sort of related to #1)
3) Thoughts on cliffhangers as endings (also sort of related to #1)
4) First words. I find the first paragraph to be the hardest writing in the story. What’s that process like for you and how do you approach what to write first?
5) Have you ever abandoned a story? What’s the process you go through in making that decision?
Tonight's So Far Unseen (in public) Required Short Pitch: Ten bodies later, you still don't have an ending and you hate yourself.

I realized after the show last night that I didn't quite finish Penumbria's question. So, part 2 of the question:
Penumbria asks: What kind of process do you go through when writing in a new fandom? How do you pick it? What kind of canon research do you do? I know you just started writing Hobbit this year. How do you make that decision? At what point do you usually decide how much of canon you are ignoring and what you want to change, major and minor?
Also, I think this show dovetails nicely with the show below:
Déjà vu: Same Character, Different Reality

You can't tell them who to love... or how many to love.
University of Wisconsin recommends police stop responding to shoplifting & theft to reduce over policing. I guess it's a lawless free-for-all.
Hr3 University of Wisconsin suggests big-box retailers can absorb thefts, plus, they're covered by insurance... so don't bother policing theft. Craziness!
Joe takes a listener call.
Have we lost respect for each others rights? And the right to own property? Will they try to take that from us next?
Teacher keeps job even after how many tardy arrivals???
