GetAtMe ItsTheBusiness "Politics and the music business, the real.."

    in Hip Hop Music

Sometimes when I'm dealing with folks involved in this business I get some of the craziest perception of what some feel the music business is about ( I mean really crazy).  At the end of the day the music business is about sales and the best way to get around the politics is by doing your job and playing your role.

People sometimes think that this business is about the money but this business is really about ego, politics and power.  Sometimes someone who has money becomes a target because the industry is full of middlemen who charging to cross the bridge is just business to them.  Call in tonight and join the discussion

GetAtMe ItsTheBusiness "If your music is so hot, why wont your fans spend $1.29"

    in Hip Hop Music

Tonight on GetAtMe ItsTheBusiness we ask the question "If your music is so hot, why won't your fans spend $1.29."  Why are we asking artist (many times who don't have the money) to spend out to become stars.  Why are we training artist to be bad business people.  Here's a flash, if your busines model consist of you spending more than your projected revenue then more than likely the spending is the business model. In todays digital age the info arrives to investors at a quicker pace and you should be able to gauge your projects success quick enough to discern whether its a hit or dog in 8 weeks.  But come on folks, a single is only $1.29.  Sales are the measuring rod not just lets get some money.  Sales creates legacies, licks are gone with the trend.  Call in at (347) 826-774

GetAtMe ItsTheBusiness Is it Business or Culture?

    in Hip Hop Music

Hip Hop is 40 years old (thats right its middle aged).  At times now it seems as thought hip hop is having a mid life crisis.  It wants to have fun and be creative but it also has to pay the bills.  Its has matured into a new fan base of different  culture and those cultures are shaping hip hop to fit it world and views.  Tonight we discuss the growth and shaping of hip hop and how hip hop (and hip hop purist) might have to reshape some of their view about the artform and the business.  Call in at (347) 826-774

GetAtMe ItsTheBusiness "Dont Burn Bridges You Cant Repair..."

    in Hip Hop Music

The music business is about sales and relationships.  Sometime I feel like every bad track gambler at some point comes in the music business and calls themselves a label owner.  Thsi business is really about relationships and sometimes in those relationships the pearls you need are their for you and are presented to you for you to use at the right time.  To many people burn bridges without regard for not only where the person stage is in life but without regarding their future stages.  Tonight we'll discuss not burning bridges in this business.  Call in at (347) 826-7743

GetAtMe ItsTheBusiness Can Someone F*ck their way to the top?

    in Hip Hop Music

Is the music business about talent or relationships?  Many times I get this question and I thought tonight we'd tell the truth.  I've to many young artist lose opportunities because someone in their camp didn't have the access that some artist had for whatever reason.  tonight we explore this topic and give advice on how to establish and maintain quality relationships with industry people.  Some people do succeed because of their relationships, its been chroncled by many (Mariah Carey, Tina Turner, Diana Ross), but these artist were also talent and unique and their relationships only enhanced someone's decision to support them.  Call in and join the discussion (347) 826-774

GetAtMe ItsTheBusiness "Is Someone chasing your fans away?"

    in Hip Hop Music

The music business is full of people with ideas.  You will meet more than one person who will have an idea that will impact your career, so listen carefully when people are giving you advice.  Some advice is well meaning and some advice is just plain bad.  Some say that this is a business about relationships but the relationship that you should concern you the most is the relationship you have with your fans.  Recently in the online game we have seen marketers and licensing groups purposely try to interfere with some artist fans.  By putting up false videos and causing licensing strike on certain platforms that are important to new music audience developement.  Tonight we explore this issue.  Call in (347) 826-774
