It was a fascinating day in Bahrain during Formula One Qualifying. Mercedes champion and current master of the universe in Formula One, Lewis Hamilton did not disappoint as he easily cruised into pole position. In four races, Hamilton has been on pole four times for a total of 42, which places him 4th on all times list of pole sitters.
Following Hamilton was Sebastian Vettel, Nico Rosberg, Kimi Raikkonen, and Valtteri Bottas. Two top drivers will dominate the front row on race day and fans will be in for a blockbuster. Bottas Williams-Martini teammate Felipe Massa qualified 6th and Red Bull Daniel Ricciardo 7th. Carlos Sainz Jr. with Toro Rosso and Romain Grosjean with Lotus were, 9th and 10th respectively.
As we last reported, the thorn in the side of the powerful Mercedes team will be, and is, the new and improved Ferrari team with former Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen.
Sahara Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg qualified 8th and Sergio Perez 11th. Unfortunately for the McLaren-Honda team, Fernando Alonso made a gallant effort but was held at 14th, and Jenson Button’s car appeared to have some electrical issues preventing him from making it into Q3. Red Bull Daniil Kvyat rolled into a sand trap at P3 and failed to make it past Q1.

Sunday’s Formula One Grand Prix in Shanghai China was off to a great start, with champion race leader, Lewis Hamilton on pole. Fresh off the starting line behind Lewis was Rosberg and Vettel. By lap 12, the top seven on the track were Hamilton, Rosberg, Vettel, Raikkonen, Massa, Grosjean and Verstappen.
Toro Rosso’s Max Verstappen, the youngest driver in Formula One, out drove the big bad Red Bulls, until lap 54 when he suffered a DNF in what appeared to be, gearbox failure. Unfortunately, the safety car was deployed. The race was finished under the safety car with a Mercedes 1-2, lead by Lewis Hamilton who won comfortably crossed the finish line first, Rosberg second, Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen third and fourth respectively. Coming in fifth was Williams-Martini driver Felipe Massa, with teammate Valtteri Bottas close behind in sixth. A great surprise for the Lotus team when Romain Grosjean, came in seventh. The Sauber garage was quite jubilant when, both of their drivers finished in the top ten. In another star-studded podium interview, the great Olympian runner, Edwin Moses, conducted the interview with Hamilton, Vettel and Rosberg, just as Arnold Schwarzeneggar did at the Australian Grand Prix. The thorn in Mercedes side this season will be Ferrari, and the thorn in Ferrari’s side, will be Williams.

World Champion Lewis Hamilton is in pole position for the third time, since the start of the season. Racing in the beautiful city of Shanghai, Mercedes driver, Lewis Hamilton, will lead the pack on Sunday, at the Formula One Grand Prix China. Hamilton’s teammate Nico Rosberg pushed his way into second, leaving the Ferrari drivers Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen, third and fourth. Formula One teams, Mercedes AMG, Scuderia Ferrari, and Williams-Martini have started making moves on the track to build Championship Constructors points. Ferrari and Williams are poised to fight it out on the track, against the superiority of Mercedes. Not to be ignored are the Red Bulls Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciard, or Sauber, whose drivers Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericcson made it into the top ten at qualifying.
The Sahara Force India team is at the bottom of the heap, and may remain there until their upgraded packages arrive, mid season. Dropping off the pace at qualifying was McLaren. When Fernando Alonso was asked about the performance of the McLaren Honda, he relied, “I enjoyed the session. All the updates we brought here seem to be working as we’d expected, and they’ve put us closer to the mid-pack. It’s very encouraging to see that we’re moving firmly in the right direction – it’s a question of time as to when we’ll become competitive. “Obviously, we began the season from a lower starting point than some of the other teams, so it’s been easier for us to make quick improvements, but the team is so focused and determined to improve – that’s very impressive."
