We've talked about having a broken heart & how Jesus came to heal the broken hearted. But today I want to address something that speaks to Christians specifically, that of enduring hardship. I don't know anyone who has escaped hard times. Some of us go through them easier than others and with a better attitude, but we all go through them. Why does God allow this? I Peter 1:6-7 says "In this you greatly rejoice though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuiness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
As a grown man, being defined with symbols is interesting. I think I am quite average; at this age having partial answers to some but not all of the elemental question pertinent to my life. In a way, it takes this kind of effort to balance an aging conscience to engage the world authenticallly. I do that to understand the nature of trust and gain control of emotion. These are difficult elements; my sense of this is incomplete.
" I wish you well on your masonic journey." We hear that alot. To be honest it never really sat well with me because it felt it was usually given to implant a conceit. ie Aren't I clever saying phrase to the initiate that he doesn't understand? Dangerous stuff to talk about conceits I know. But the mathematics of the sentence is wrong because he is left untaught. Everyone comes into life alone and in relationship. How we conduct our life is about choices we make. I think freemasons gernerally agree each new member is part of the Order, joining us to explore the meaning of a life well lived. Our ritual gives an opportunity; not answers but an atmosphere to be a learner of philosophy, geometry, science, the arts, sociology and history. We are in a Mystery School in the truest sense; we are the alchemist seeking knowledge.
An intelligent man will understand the deeper growth only possible through respect of a higher power and mankind. Freemasonry helps us understand the work of that achievement.
Don't walk away disappointed, impatient and frustrated. We've been looking for you. Do you have the temperment and intelligence to proceed? Natural talent is rare. Most of us acheive by hard work. It's a choice.
Q. What did Jesus give to express the genuiness of God's love toward us? A. His life and all that would point to humaness. Now that you are a son of God, made in His likeness, "What are you willing to give up to show genuine love toward others?" Loving the way God has said, requires sacrifice of self. Matt. 16:24-25 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any [man] will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. God has sent you a reminder that the love you are to exhibit is a SACRIFICIAL LOVE.
