Etan Thomas is More Than An Athlete. He’s been called a “gentle giant.” A “rebounder with a cause.” “The Poet”. Thomas defies the stereotype of the apolitical athlete, and plants his roots in his budding literary career with the conviction of a Bill Russell, and poetic finesse of Muhammad Ali. Born in Harlem and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Thomas’ childhood was surrounded by books on the civil rights movement, politics and the 1960′s. He was greatly influenced by his mother and school teacher, Deborah Thomas.
In 2005 he released a collection of poems called More Than An Athlete; In January 2013 he released Voices Of The Future a collection of poems and essays from young writers on topics such as Racism, Trayvon Martin, President Obama, Gun Violence, Aids etc. On May of 2012 he released Fatherhood (Rising To The Ultimate Challenge) and his writings have appeared in CNN, ESPN, The Washington Post, Huff Post, Hoopshype.com and slamonline, and he co-hosts the radio program "The Collision: Sports and Politics with Etan Thomas & Dave Zirin. Cheryl Rigdon may not have walked away from the Shark Tank with a deal, but she did make a big splash. Her gentle manner, all around likeability, coupled with an extremely useful product made her a hit with Shark Tank fans. Cheryl has always been a problem-solver, and when she got annoyed by not being able to access the product at the bottom of her expensive bottles of make-up and lotion, she came up with a solution. That solution was the Spatty. After creating the perfect tool for her dilemma in the bathroom, she decided that the same tool, only bigger, could be used in the kitchen, so the Spatty Daddy was born. Join us to find out what it was really like to be on Shark Tank and get an update in her Invention!
This class is based upon a letter written by Sultan Muhammad Bello the son of Shehu Uthman Dan Fodiyo (may Allah have Mercy on both of them).
Sultan Muhammad Bello composed this text after he was appointed to leadership after the death of his father. This is one of a few small text written by him with the intention of solidifying the jamaa'ah (the Islamic community).
He mentions seven principles which must be adhered to in order for a community to remain or become healthy. These principles are preceded by an introduction which emphasizes the destructive nature of loving the dunya [the transient and worldly life]. The first few chapters deal with subjects which the modern mind cannot conceive of as having anything to do with government and community building, such as seeking forgiveness of Allah, seeking knowledge, and preserving the prayers in the masjids. It is these things which establish just, Islamic societies.
The next few chapters deal with obeying those in authority, being merciful and gentle, avoiding injustice and establishing the jihaad.
This blessed book was written by a scholarly leader who actually practiced and implemented his knowledge; and this was reflected in the just government which he was the head of.
This class will be taught by Amir Khalil Abdullahi of Masjid Uthman Dan Fodiyo & Nur uz-Zamaan Institute (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania).
United Health Care Cycling Team's Benjamin Day joins us with the nitty gritty about today's rainy time trial. The course’s roots are in Colorado racing lore and trace back to the Coors Classic. Starting in Vail and climbing most of the way up Vail Pass the route is no easy proposition, even for the best riders on earth. The gentle grades of the first half of the course give way to a steady climb for the last three miles. It takes more than legs on this strategic course though; go too hard early and the climb may kill your chances, but conserve too much for the climb and the leaderboard may be out of reach.
Yes Obama and his coconspirator Eric Holder are stirring the excrement in Ferguson. No one knows that the cop had his eye socket fractured by the "Gentle Giant". This is the most ridiculous case of race baiting yet. Meanwhile a black cop kills a white kid in Salt Lake and not a word in the media. All of this is part of a plan to get people riled up into race riots. Holder is pining for the days of the SDS (Students for a Democratic Society) and his occupation of Columbia. Destabilization is the plan here as much as in Mexico last election. We have the Klan and the Black Panthers squaring off too! These guys are international socialists and WE ALL KNEW IT! We will need to be microchipped so they will know who we are when these things happen.
Tonight we'll be continuing our conversation from last week on how Israylite men are supposed to run their households, and what to look for to make sure that our homes have not been Infiltrated by the spirit of Jezebel.
1Ti 3:1 Trustworthy is the word: If a man longs for the position of an overseer, he desires a good work.
1Ti 3:2 An overseer, then, should be blameless, the husband of one wife, sober, sensible, orderly, kind to strangers, able to teach,
1Ti 3:3 not given to wine, no brawler, but gentle, not quarrelsome, no lover of money,
1Ti 3:4 one who rules his own house well, having his children in subjection with all reverence,
1Ti 3:5 for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how shall he look after the
assembly of Yah?
