One of the most divisive issues in the church continues to be regarding tithing. Many misunderstand the term, its use in the scriptures and its meaning for the church today. We will be looking at the topic from as clear a perspective as possible, based on the scriptures. The act of tithing is clearly delineated in the scriptures, but a misunderstanding of the ways the term is used in scriptures and what happened at the Cross and Resurrection has caused many Christians to continue to be brought under the heavy weights of the Pharisees.
The scriptures can generally be broken down into the following timeframes:
1. PreCodification of The Law (before the law was written down);
2. The Codified Law (the written law);
3. Additions to the Law (included in post-Torah books of the Bible),
4. The Transition (when Jesus taught under the law),
5. The Fulness of Times: Grace! (from the Resurrection until whatever comes next).
For clarity sake, and to see the progression of God’s unfolding plan, we will review the scriptural usage and function of the tithe and tithing within each of these time frames. The scripture verses being discussed are included for clarity sake. References are in The New King James Version unless indicated; please feel free to refer to additional references and versions as desired.
Our goal here is not to correct other interpretations or applications of this topic, simply to place into context what the scriptures say, and how to respond according to our new spirit nature.

Good morning Church! Today we are reading Romans Chapter 12.
Paul has some ideas for Christians who really want to live in harmony with each other and be close to God. Christians should give their whole being over to God so he can fill them up with everything that is good and wonderful and all around awesome in his eyes.They do not want to be doing what everyone else is doing (it's so conformist), but they want to be transformed into new people who can intimately know God. Sounds like a plan. Some pointers to start: don't get cocky, keep a level head, and use common sense. Good ideas… we should be taking notes. Paul says that Christians are like the different parts of the body. Everyone has different gifts, too. Some people are good at predicting the future, some at ministering to others, some at teaching, some are generous, some are natural leaders, and some are just plain compassionate. All these gifts are important and a-okay with God. Overall, Christians should do what's loving and give a big roundhouse kick to the face to everything that's evil. They should love each other a lot, serve God, be patient when bad things happen, welcome strangers who need their help, be kind to people who are out to get them, and basically live in harmony with everyone and everything. Oh, Lord, kumbaya. As for people who tick you off, don't be filled with anger and vengeance. Leave that up to God. "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord." You should even be cool to your enemies. If they need food, give it to them. If they're hungry, crack open an ice cold Coke and hand it over. Really just kill them with kindness, Paul says. It's the only way that you might make them feel ashamed of what they're doing to you. Paul sums all this up with a final piece of advice: don't get taken over by evil. Instead, take over the whole world with good. Totally. Thanks to www.shmoop.com

Jack was one of the first hearing-impaired babies identified in Georgia through the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening program. He received his first pair of behind-the-ear hearing aids when he was 6 weeks old. His parents, teachers and audiologists went to great lengths to make sure he learned and developed like any other kid in America. At 11 years old, he was fortunate to go on a mission trip to Ghana where he realized that this was his calling in life. Jack believes that his hearing loss is a gift so that he can help others who also have loss of hearing.
On his return from Ghana, Jack told his parents he wanted to start a foundation to raise money for hearing aids, audiology care and other hearing expenses that many insurances do not cover. Jack was motivated to make a difference in the lives of kids with hearing loss. He believed that he had been blessed with the care that he needed and therefore, wanted to be able to bless other people with the same level of care. Thus, 20/20 Hearing was formed and is now a 501-(c)(3) non-profit. Its mission is to give the gift of hearing and a better future to those less fortunate around the world.
Aside from this extraordinary mission, Jack is a typical 7th grade young man. He loves to play lacrosse and follows the Duke Blue Devils lax team closely. His fun loving nature is enjoyed by all that are around him.
Our website will give more information of the mission trips that he has been on. www.2020Hearing.org
We have given financial assistance to 4 children since August and currently are in the process of funding 2 more. We will be helping the deaf community in Leveque, Haiti.
