It's so fabulous to tell you how AWESOME our friend, David. P. Stevens, is doing. Since his last visit on the show, he has played the Iridium in New York, on the Cap Jazz Cruise, toured Europe and completed a new album! Oh - and his website is now updated to reflect the ever-evolving direction of "Mr. Guitar" :-D
This amazing guitarist/vocalist/composer/producer is determined to keep taking us on journeys with his music. David is not content to let anything BE. He wants to stretch the canvas, find new paint, and then draw outside the lines - are you feeling me? Jazz and Soul and Funk and Romance and music that's older than him combined with the young that he IS - it's all in that juicy Hybrid that is his and his alone.
You may have known David when he recorded "Timeless" or "The Shedd" or his last CD called "Epiphany." THAT was a star-studded project (Geralds Albright, Veasley, Carol Riddick, Frank McComb, Elan Trotman!) And "Mr. Guitar" is blessed with names as well, including a fellow Philadelphian, Gail Jhonson!
Let's celebrate the new layer of success that this bright and refreshing talent is just about to experience - "Mr. Guitar" will drop on 8/5/2014. We'll hear tracks from it and talk to David about how it came together - as well as the upcoming gigs where you can see his artistry POP!
We might just have another guest on Tuesday's show - "The Soulful Nerd", Kenny Wesley! Kenny has had some truly astounding success in the Washington, D.C. area and beyond. He's got a hot song on the charts with our friend, Mycah Chevalier, and he will also be in the house this Saturday - at the Christian de Mesones celebration at K2! Funny how our guests keep tying together, huh? That's the beauty of HYBRID :)
Now you KNOW that the New Year is off with a bang when you see guests like these! A beloved fellow Philadelphian and a first-call singer in Los Angeles. Two FAVORITES of many who love the true hybrid of Jazz and Soul.
Gerald's first on the show - time is of the essence with this interview. Bethesda Blues and Jazz - in the shadow of Washington, D.C. - welcomes GV and the band on 1/4. So you best believe that the excitement will be palpable! With the success of his venue - up the road from Philly in Reading - and the prep for his annual "Bass Boot Camp" near Spring - Gerald's on a schedule. To be able to discuss his musical journey is thrilling. And we'll do just that, touching on his years with the late, great Joe Zawinul. His recording career as leader - since 1992. And his time as a Radio Host for our hometown's former Smooth Jazz station.
Jeff Robinson joins us later in the show. Believe yours truly, I've had my eye and ear on this amazing vocalist for some time. So have thousands of others! Born in New York, Jeff spent quality time within the London Jazz scene. He was treasured there and in Los Angeles, where he makes his home. Fortunate patrons can hear his otherwordly "sensuasoul" golden throat about town - when he isn't in the recording studio, adding an extra dimension to another artist's project. He most assuredly did that when he worked on Brian Simpson's latest, "Just What You Need." If you've heard Jeff's own "Eyewitness", you know the magic that he possesses. A breed apart.
What joy to speak with two incredible craftsmen of musical ART! January 2nd will truly be a day to celebrate - and YOU have a special invitation to join us :) The fun starts at ONE EST!

Two of the most amazing talents that Philly and Washington D.C. have produced will be on the show on Tuesday!
Multi-faceted, multi-genre guitar wizard, David P. Stevens, joins us at two p.m. Eastern time. Watching David spin his magic over the past several years has been glorious. I first heard "The Shedd" when Baltimore's contemporary Jazz station was cooking full-time. To hear the production, the interplay of guest artists Gerald Veasley and Carol Riddick, and the skills of this writer/arranger - besides the obvious over-the-top licks - well, it has stuck in my soul to this day. "Epiphany" - David's new CD - is doing the same. Gerald joins his friend again, as does Carol - and they are joined by Gerald Albright - who plays BASS to coincide with David's BAD, BAD guitar! We'll hear tracks from the project - and get to pick up where we left off when DPS last joined us.
You may know the name Integriti Reeves. Besides the fact that it's one of the coolest names in the world, it's attached fondly to the group Afro Blue. The Howard University stars that won the hearts of thousands on NBC's "Sing-Off" a year or so back. Integriti is beautiful, inside and out - and that voice packs an unearthly punch. That pulls you in and won't let you go. The prestigious Strathmore in Bethesda, Maryland, knows that this classically trained Peabody scholar is someone extraordinary - and that is why Integriti was chosen to be Artist-in-Residence this season. She has shared the stage with internationally known stars and her own star is ascending rapidly. We'll hear about her charmed life when she follows David, close to the three p.m. hour, Eastern time.
Spring is here - let's celebrate with the best music possible to make our hearts sing!

Finally! After several months we were able to catch up with Gerald Veasley, the phenom contemporary jazz bassist from Central PA! (You'd think it would be easy since we're just a few miles away, but NOOOOOO!)
At any rate, it's going to be an awesome interview when we talk about his upcoming projects (he's scheduled to play South Africa in just a few weeks); his past performances (there's so much to choose from) and what's next for the world-renowned artist! Join us on WED, Aug 3rd at 7pm EST for a look into the mind of one of the busiest artists in music!
Contemporary jazz bassist Gerald Veasley makes no claim to be a master chess player, but there are certain unmistakable parallels between his line of work and the small-scale war game that has challenged great minds for centuries. “There’s a multiplicity of decision making in the game of chess, and there are consequences to every action,” says Veasley. “In a lot of ways, making music is like that too. There are so many choices, especially in jazz, where the situation is never the same twice. That’s always exciting to me. You’re creating new scenarios at every turn – every time you step in front of an audience, or every time you step into the studio.”
That same combination of challenges and opportunities is at the heart of Your Move, Veasley’s new Heads Up International release. The album is the latest – and perhaps most innovative and audacious – maneuver in the game that Veasley has been playing since his early days as an up-and-coming musician in his native Philadelphia.
