Two big stories dominated the week for Outsports. First was Monday's Mexico-Croatia game, during which Mexico fans repeatedly chanted "puto." Many have labeled it a gay slur, while others claim it is just another word that is evil to everyone, not just gays. With Mexico playing its next World Cup match this Sunday, we wonder if ESPN will have found a way to mute the word.

Plus, it was a big year for corporations supporting LGBT sports as Nike announced its 2014 #BeTrue collection. YouTube got into the game as well with their #ProudToPlay campaign. What does it mean to see these two huge companies embracing gay athletes?
Despite the meme that gay athletes are a distraction to their teams, Jason Collins' season with the Brooklyn Nets came and went. The Nets had a strong season with Collins, going to the Eastern Conference semifinals before losing to the two-time defending champion Miami Heat. What does Collins' quiet exit tell us about the state of pro sports for gay athletes?

This Sunday's Topic
Gay marriage is a hot topic this week, with a Connecticut high court ruling unanimously that a woman whose wife died amid a medical malpractice case may sue a doctor over the loss of her wife's companionship and income, even though that right to sue was limited to heterosexual married couples at the time. Also, a federal appeals court ruling Friday that Oklahoma's ban on gay marriage is unconstitutional spurred celebration among gay rights activists.
BUT WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS? Are we traveling down a slippery slope by allowing gays to seek retroactive benefits? Was legalizing gay marriage a good idea? Call and tell us your thoughts this Sunday. Call 646-200-0246 on Sunday, July 18, 2014 at 7:00 pm, EST.

Michael Sam, the first openly gay NFL player won the Arthur Ashe Espy for courage on Thursday, July 17, 2014. The award was presented to him by Pro Wrestler and actor Duane “Rock” Johnson. On the way to the stage, he was congratulated first by a young man identified as his love interest then by St. Louis Rams Coach Jeff Fischer, Pro Football great Jim Brown and openly gay ABC news anchor Robin Roberts. Highlighting his tearful acceptance speech was a brief recant of words of encouragement he gave to a young woman who was contemplating suicide because she was gay. His exit from the stage was met with cheering applause.
The Michael Sam emotional speech at the Espys is the spin topic for the Brothers in the Virtual Living Room to discuss homosexuality according to the holy scriptures.
