Across the state of Georgia, every race in the 2014 General Election was a fierce fight to the finish. While Republicans control Georgia, Democrats were working to gain as many seats as they could. Unsuccessful in their attempt, this was one of the best and strongest ballots that Democrats had seen in years! Each candidate was a winner in their own right!
Join us this week as we interview Brian Reese, Democratic Candidate for the U.S. Congress, District 1, David Vogel, Democratic Candidate for the U.S. Congress, District 9 and Valerie Wilson, Democratic Candidate for the Superintendent of the Georgia School Board. How did they fair in the big scheme of things? What was their take on the elections and the impact it will have on the 2015 legislative session? Who will return to the campaign trail? Let's get the scoop straight from the candidates themselves!
When the rich, young man encountered Jesus, he was very brave in asking the following question - "What do I still lack?" After assuring the Lord that he kept all of the commandments, he wanted to know what else was necessary in order to gain eternal life. Unfortunately, the young man didn't like Jesus's answer and "went away sorrowful". How about you? What is holding you back from a closer relationship with Jesus. Are you willing to ask the question and listen to the Lord's answer? Join Gary Zimak as he discusses this challenging, but powerful Biblical encounter and offers suggestions for applying it to your life.
Policy solutions and hope. That is what I hope to offer. I share with you the keynote speech from Friday evening's training event, Peggy Flanagan, Exec. Dir of Children's Defense Fund.
Yesterday it was announced that the Grand Jury in Ferguson decided to not indict the officer responsible for the death of Michael Brown, an unarmed teenager who was shot six times by that police officer who claimed that he feared for his life.
A little less than 8,245 days ago I wrote a poem entitled, "Never Again" because I was in Los Angeles at a Laker game the night the riots started. And, as the days went on, I was getting a little tired of the pundits giving space to Pres. Bush who called the rioters, "thugs and crooks."
Rioting is wrong, but let's keep King's words in mind as we witness the reaction to the decision in Ferguson.
Martin Luther King --- as quoted by Amy Goodman on Democracy's Now coverage posted on youtube.com today: "It is not enough for me to stand before you tonight and condemn riots. It would be morally irresponsible for me to do that without, at the same time, condemning the contingent, intolerable conditions that exist in our society. These conditions are the things that cause individuals to feel that they have no other alternative than to engage in violent rebellions to get attention. And I must say tonight that a riot is the language of the unheard."
