Andrew Harvey is Founder Director of the  Institute of Sacred Activism, an international organization focused on inviting concerned people to take up the challenge of our contemporary global crises by becoming inspired, effective, and practical agents of institutional and systemic change, in order to create peace and sustainability. He is considered an expert on the poetry of Rumi and has written and edited over 30 books including The Hope and his most recent Radical Passion: Sacred Love and Wisdom in Action. And when a generation is very, very lucky, it encounters a teacher so illumined that the words he delivers must be illumined as well. In the case of Andrew Harvey, the light he sheds is like a meteor burst across the inner sky.”

Words from the Well with Wendy L. Harvey

    in Family

Dare to be King with guest David Miller
Hear how one man’s reality turned into a survival piece for every African American youth he comes in contact with. This man has vision and purpose for the direction of others.

Dare To Be King: What If the Prince Lives… grew out of my own experience as an African American male living in an American inner city. On August 11, 1989, I watched as my friend, Donald Vincent Bentley, was gunned down on the streets of Baltimore during his summer vacation from Morehouse University. During the past 20 plus years, numerous young males whom I have worked with have been killed as a result of community violence.

In urban centers today, young people view violence as a natural and viable means of solving problems. For them, physical aggression toward others is the norm. As communities become overwhelmed by senseless acts of violence committed by some of their youngest members, it becomes more difficult to address these problems. The Dare To Be King Model is just one of the solutions that are available to community groups, schools and other organizations that are serious about improving the quality of life for African American males!”
