Business Talk features Eric Mature, Faculty with the Fine Woodworking Technology at Rio Grande Community College on January 14, 2105 at 1:00 pm
The University of Rio Grande's Fine Woodworking program prepares and enlightens students with the skills necessary to be successful woodworkers. These skills will be developed in a "hands on" experience where most of the students' time is spent in the shop building fine furniture. The program operates like a professional, custom furniture shop using machine for dimensioning stock and increasing efficiency. Hand tools are used to cut fine joinery and create the many fine details that machines can't duplicate.
The FW program design and build jigs to use with the table saw, shaper, and other machines to increase safety and production. Dovetail joinery, turning, carving, and other visual details are done by hand. We feel that learning this balance between hand tools and machinery is the key to making fine furniture.
The program offers a one-year certificate and a two-year Associate's Degree. The FW classes, along with courses in math, science, and communications greatly increase the marketability of graduates of the Fine Woodworking program.

While in Atlanta, she is busy operating her daily labor of love: H. O. M. E. (Helping Oppressed Mothers Endure). Carolyn established this organization to aid single mothers in rebuilding their lives after divorce, domestic violence and experiences of hardship—by providing new and gently used furniture as means of starting over; starting anew. ? ? European-born (Poland) spent some of childhood in Europe. Grew up in Chicago, later moved to Wisconsin, 13 years in Boston, moved to Seattle 3 years ago to continue graduate education Professional life: scientist/materials engineer working in nanotechnology R&D group in Seattle Business: too many hobbies. I live to make/create things. Interests developed in early childhood in my dad’s (engineer/carpenter) workshop. Soap love came from grandmother’s/mom’s love of all that’s simple and all that’s natural. Best soap recipes I have are from my grandma Greatest passions: woodworking, sewing, soap making, knitting How did the business started: search for perfect soap making aids. I didn’t own a house previously and I had no room for workshop setup. Since its purchase I have been remodeling it building furniture for it and working on other projects. I also had a space for a soap room. From there I came to realize that I needed molds easy to work with and ones in which I could create prettiest designs possible. My molds received such great feedback from fellow soapers that I decided to share them with others. When I became a vendor for Bramble Berry I realized that I have created something unique. It’s only beginning but we’ll see
Atlanta, GA - Music, modeling and acting are among the top three career goals for many in the entertainment field, but it is a well known fact that only a small percentage actually make any real headway in all three pursuits. Up and comer Drew Stephenson will not tell you that he is different, but he will show you with his persistence, determination and dedication. So much so that the young actor just stepped off the USA Network's newest television drama, "Complications," and is now celebrating landing a recurring role on one of television's top suspense series, "Vampire Diaries," on The CW. Stephenson will play Collin, an integral character to the show's plot, on two consecutive shows, starting January 22, 2015. A second generation Jamaican, Stephenson was born in Brooklyn and currently resides in Atlanta. The handsome young looker initially got his start in the business eight years ago as a fashion model, booking gigs like the Sean John anniversary fashion show and print ads for Ashley Furniture, Belk, and Wingate.
