    ANYTHING GOES Alethea Kontis

    in Pop Culture

Bennet Pomerantz talks to media guests on the Betty Award winning ANYTHING GOES His guest tonight is the talented fantasy author Alethea Kontis

She had three books come out this summer: TRIXTER, Tales of Arilland, and Diary of a Mad Scientist Garden Gnome--all self published. Am currently working on the audio of TRIXTER through ACX. This year was my year to learn how to become a hybrid author. I have learned a LOT.

Also, the audio of HERO should be out any minute now, via audible, read by Katherine Kellgren. That was a hard-won triumph.

    ANYTHING GOES Lindsay Downs

    in Pop Culture

Bennet Pomerantz talks to media guests on the Betty Award winning ANYTHING GOES

I've been an avid readers ever since I was old enough to hold a red leather bound first edition copy of Sir Walter Scott's The Lady of the Lake in my lap.
So it only seemed natural at some point in my life I take up pen and paper to start writing. Over time my skills slightly improved which I attribute to my English teachers.
My breakthrough came about in the mid 1970's when I read a historical romance written by Sergeanne Golon, Angelique. This French husband and wife team opened my eyes to the real world of fiction. Stories about romance, beautiful damsels, handsome heroes and plots which kept me hooked. Of course, being a man, I had to keep my reading hidden from others as that wasn't appropriate reading for men.
With this new found appreciation of the written word I took up other books and devoured them as a starving person would a plate of food. I them attempted to write again. I still wasn't satisfied so I put it aside for years as other events entered my life.
Finally, in the early years of the new millennium I tried again to write and once again met with limited success. At least now I was able to get past the first page or two. Then, in 2006 a life changing event brought me back to my love, I took a job as a security officer. This allowed me plenty of time to read different genres.
My favourite was regency. As I poured through everyone I could get my hands on I knew this could be something I wanted to attempt.
Since 2012 when my debut regency romantic suspense released I was hooked and have, except for a few contemporaries, focused on this genre.
Since 2012 I've lived in central Texas. I'm also a member of Romance Writers of America and their local chapter.

Why hasn't an Afrikan American Fund been created yet?

    in Politics Progressive

Everybody is screaming "Black Power!" and there have been two Million Man Marches in 20 years, but...there is an old saying in politics that goes, "Whatever you subsidize you get more of."

Why don't all of these people screaming, "Black Power!" and "Nationhood!" at the top of their lungs put their money where their mouth is?

On this show will discuss the hypocrisy of refusing to invest your money in Nationhood while simultaneously paying taxes to support the Land, Infrastructure and Nationhood of your enemy.

We will also discuss why the lack of an Afrikan American fund are the absence of a suggestion of one is an indictment against so-called "Black Leadership."

Also, what exactly would an Afrikan American fund accomplish for Black Afrikan people in America?

    ANYTHING GOES Melissa Keir

    in Pop Culture

Writer/critic Bennet Pomerantz discusses subjects with authors and artists on The Betty Award winning ANYTHING GOES. His guest tonight is author Melissa Keir

Melissa Keir has always wanted to be an author when she wasn't hoping for a career as a race car driver. Her love of books was instilled by her mother and grandparents who were avid readers. She'd often sneak books away from them so that she could fantasize about those strong alpha males and plucky heroines. In middle school and high school, Melissa used to write sappy love poems and shared them with her friends and still has those poems today! In college her writing changed to sarcastic musings on life as well as poems with a modern twist on fairy tales and won awards for her writing. You can find many of these musings along with her latest releases on her website and blog.

As a writer, Melissa likes to keep current on topics of interest in the world of writing. She's a member of the Romance Writers of America

Melissa doesn't believe in down time. She's always keeping busy. Melissa is a wife and mother, an elementary school teacher, a book reviewer, an editor for a publishing company as well as an author. Her home blends two families and is a lot like the Brady Bunch, without Alice- a large grocery bill, tons of dirty dishes and a mound of laundry. She loves to write stories that feature happy endings and is often seen plotting her next story.
    Melissa loves hearing from readers!
