Energy Efficiency: Getting More with Less

    in Environment

Steven Nadel, Executive Director American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy

Steve is a guest we definitely want to know more about because has he EVER got credibility around such an important issue. Prior to his promotion to executive director in 2001, Steven served as deputy director of the organization and director of ACEEE’s Utilities and Buildings programs. He has worked in the energy efficiency field for more than 30 years and has over 100 publications. He has testified many times before Congress on energy efficiency subjects and also testified before multiple state legislatures. And a great deal more. FYI, The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE), acts as a catalyst to advance energy efficiency policies, programs, technologies, investments, and behaviors. They believe that the United States can harness the full potential of energy efficiency to achieve greater economic prosperity, energy security, and environmental protection for all its people. Hard for me to think of a more important topic. This show made possible through the generous support of The Fairfax Companies.

    2015 Chevy Impala Bi-Fuel

    in Automotive

Noted automotive journalist ALAN GELL had a week-long test-drive of a 2015 Chevrolet Impala Bi-Fuel sedan a few months ago.  This car ran on CNG -- compressed natural gas.  CNG is here, but not really widespread.  CNG is a mixture of Biogas and methane gas.

Alan recorded a discriptive analysis of his week-long test-drive for KBPC-FM radio.  It is repeated here for this segment of BlogTalk Radio.  Bottom line:  The car worked well and Alan looks forward to more vehicles running on CNG.

Shift Focus: Fuel It Up (don't work it off)

    in Nutrition

Notice a lot of the verbiage from individuals around the holidays. You may hear things such as, "I ate way too many cookies last night; I have to work it off today." Or something like, "I know I'm going to overeat/drink during the holidays, so, I better make sure I work it off." If an individual is looking to achieve their health, fitness and body composition goals, they have to change the focus from "work it off" to the focus of, "fuel it up."

When we have the "work it off" mindset, we are simply trying to right a wrong and this will backfire each and every time. We want to shift our focus to fueling the body properly, even if we did slip up and consume far too many solid and/or liquid calories during the holiday parties.

The top trucking OEM’s are working tirelessly to develop automation to allow for increased fleet efficiency, maximized driver productivity, better fuel economy, and above all safety.

While the autonomous truck has been defined as the way forward to achieve these outcomes, the technology is still far from flawless and not ready for full implementation. There are a variety of critical challenges ranging from software capabilities to hardware competencies and onto strategic planning inhibitors preventing this technology from complete adoption.
