    John Reed Coach of 3 FTC Del Rio Middle School Teams

    On the AlamoFIRST Show we are highlighting the folks who are making things happen in the world of FIRST Robotics.


    On today's show I am chatting with John Reed who is a middle school teacher in Del Rio and the coach for 3 FTC robotics teams.  FTC competition is relatively new to Del Rio. They began competition last season with one team which quickly grew to three teams this season.

    Team 7694 - Nerd-Vana


    Team 7695 - Dia De Los Robots


    John shares the story of robotics in Del Rio, TX from inception to the rapid growth of community support for the robotics program. He also shares the role that parents, mentors, sponsors and administrators play in developing and maintaining a growing robotics program.

    John Reed - Del Rio Middle School Robotics Coach

    As we continue on with this robotics season one of the interviews I wanted to make sure to capture was really more of an update show. Last year I spoke with John Reed, who told the story of the growth of FIRST robotics in Del Rio, TX which is a small Texas border town. The reason I wanted to bring John back on the show was because between this year and last year there has been what I’ll call an explosion in the amount of interest and robotics teams along the border. I like to think of John who is a teacher and robotics coach at Del Rio Middle School as the spark that has lit the fuse of this new growth.
