On this week’s The Farm radio talk show on the Overthrow Radio Network, host Chris Petherick talks with Laurie Cohen Peters and Liz Reitzig, the founders of Farm Food Freedom Coalition (F3C).
Chris, Laurie and Liz will discuss local food production in the age of industrial farming, including the tragic case of New York farmer Joshua Rockwood, who was recently arrested and hit with a series of absurd charges because, among other things, his livestock’s water was frozen in the middle of winter and he did not heat his barns.
Laurie is a co-founder of the F3C and is a member of the Rawesome Food Club in Venice, Calif., which was raided in 2012 by California officials because it specialized in unprocessed foods, including raw milk. Liz is co-coordinator of Grassfed on the Hill buying club, which serves the greater Washington, D.C. area and is co-founder of F3C. She has spent the past six years representing small farms and consumers at the state legislature and in the halls of Congress lobbying for fewer restrictions on farmers.
In today's segment Mayor Paul Dyster discusses several issues and initiatives in the city of Niagara Falls. But first though, as part of a Niagara Falls high school student project I've been asked by Jonathon Hartman, a student at Niagara Falls High School, to read a poem on the air. The poem is by Wilfred Owen and written between September and October 1917, when Owen was a patient at Craiglockhart War Hospital in Edinburgh .
We discuss the use of Casino Revenues and whether there is a need to legislate a Casino Revenue Spending Policy. I have been lobbying for one for about seven years.
We discuss the frozen pipes this past winter and what steps are being taken to address this next winter.
We discuss development, with special emphasis on the new Train Station and our relationship with Amtrak. I press the mayor to explain our relationship with Amtrak and whether we have an agreement for them to be a paying tenant of the facility. To this day there have been discussions but no written agreements.
We discuss the new sanitation that effort focusing on recycling and enforcement of the ordinance.
I ask if there is any progress in the codification of the Niagara Falls City Charter.
We will cover a variety of subjects tonight. I want to talk about training in inclement weather, with gear on, wearing protective eye wear and gloves. All of the protective gear you need to wear can make a big difference in how you perform, and can men the difference between making it to the end of gh event or not. Catching a secondary projectile in your eye can be a complete game changer or ender.
Want to remind folks to be working on their preps as well. Even just adding small items, or remembering to store water frozen in your freezer, it all helps.

We are all faced with challenges and obstacles throughout our lives. To some, the choices and consequences that lie ahead can seem incredibly overwhelming. Past experiences play an immense role in our ability to choose the best paths and quite frequently people become frozen and afraid to take that next step. Alejandra enjoyed tremendous success as a psychologist in Chile before relocating to the United States in 1999. Her ambitions were to continue that success within the United States and eventually expand globally, which she has by speaking at seminars in Europe, South America, and North America. Alejandra incorporates a rich multicultural, educational, and professional background into her work that is truly rare to find.
Alejandra works with people suffering from a wide variety of issues including depression, addiction, mental disorders and trauma to name a few. As a testament to her devotion to her clients, Alejandra makes herself available 24 hours a day and seven days a week holding sessions by phone, via Skype and in person at her Bridgeport, Connecticut office.
