Ten Minutes of Friendship: Allie Krider Harrison, Collier County Health Clinic

    in Health

Welcome to the new format for the Friendship Centers' Podcast. For a long time now we've focused on the challenges of caregiving, but there are so many other services the Friendship Centers offer. We're not walking away from helping our listeners with the challenges of being a caregiver, just expanding into different areas where the Friendship Centers have some amazing programs and support for the aging community.

Our guest today is Allie Krider Harrison, the new Executive Director for the Friendship Centers' Collier County Health Clinic located in Naples, Florida. She's only been on the job a short time, but she "hit the ground running." In this new podcast she gives us some great insight into the Clinic's ability to help the community and some of her goals for the future. This is also part of a "double header" with a blog post by Allie as well. There's a lot going on in Naples and we couldn't be more excited to have Allie on the team!

These podcasts are all made possible thanks to the support of the Friendship Centers. Their slogan, "People Helping People" couldn't describe them better. It's an amazing group of people totally dedicated to the Southwest Florida communities.

Friendship and the Opposite Sex w/ Lenon Honor

    in Self Help

I am glad to once again have Lenon Honor on the show this fall season. We had him last season when we spoke on the topic, "From Boy to Man." Lenon Honor is a writer, musician, video producer, talk show host, and counselor.  His website www.lenonhonor.com has provided a wealth of information and inspiration in regards to manhood, fatherhood, marriage, children, family, and personal growth (from Lenonhonor.com).

Friendship I've learned is the foundation of everything when it comes to the opposite sex. I realize it is one thing to say it and a whole different thing to actually apply it to our everyday lives. I've also realized that many of us, including myself, have not mastered the ability to be friends with the opposite sex. We might date, be sexually involved, and sometimes even marry the opposite sex, but have no clue what a real friendship looks like and we wonder why things don't last or we fall into the same issues over and over.

Some of us have also been through very painful or traumatic experiences that cause us to have high diffuculty more than others to form male/female relationships.

Lenon Honor said in one of his videos:

How is it that a woman can believe that she is going to be prepared for a positive relationship, but she has not yet mastered the ability to be friends with men? Perhaps of all the trauma that she’s been through at the hands of men, in her mind she has all these negative thoughts about men. Therefore, mentally she cannot put men within the scope of friends in the first place because she sees within the lens of her trauma. The woman begins to see all men as her abuser, therefore, how can she befriend a man and friendship is the foundation?
