The Z Wars, Freud, and Politics

    in Psychology

We are bombarded with books and movies about zombies, vampires, werewolves and other undead creatures that mindlessly seek human flesh and blood but can never be filled and satisfied. These creatures seem to be in some terrible pain but are unable to understand, master or reduce thair agony as they go about destroying everything about them and ultimately themselves as well. Why is the popular media so consumed with horror stories? Are we turning into hungry ghosts and are these stories a metaphor for what we are becoming as individuals and as a society as well.  Todays story will suggest that many of us have become terrified in the face of so much mindless politics, consumerism, materialism and try and provide some insight into our possible transformation into a society of zombies. We will discuss contributions from Freud, Evolutionary Theory, Social Theory and other relelvant sources. I will especially discuss the Freudian and later Psychoanalytic concepts of early childhood trauma and the resulting emotions of fear, shame and guilt that can color an individual's whole life story.

TRANSFIGURATION / HIGH SPEED THINKING / KNOWING HOW TO SEE

    in Religion

And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
    Matt 17:2

    KNOWING HOW TO SEE

Geniuses think productively, not reproductively. When confronted with a problem, they ask “How many different ways can I look at it?” Genius often comes from finding a new perspective that no one else has taken. Leonardo da Vinci believed that to gain knowledge about the form of problems, you begin by learning how to restructure it in many different ways. He felt the first way he looked at a problem was too biased toward his usual way of seeing things. He would restructure his problem by looking at it from one perspective and move to another perspective and still another. With each move, his understanding would deepen and he would begin to understand the essence of the problem. Da Vinci called this process “knowing how to see.” Einstein’s theory of relativity is, in essence, a description of the interaction between different perspectives. Freud’s analytical methods were designed to find details that did not fit with traditional perspectives in order to find a completely new point of view. By not settling with one perspective, geniuses do not merely solve existing problems, like inventing an environmentally-friendly fuel; they identify new ones. It does not take a genius to analyze dreams; it required Freud to ask in the first place what meaning dreams carry from our psyche.

How is psychology used to manipulate and influence people in their daily lives?

    in Psychology

Joining Andy Today Is Julian Coulter Explaining How is psychology used to manipulate and influence people in their daily lives?

There are many facets to the psychopath. There are a number of causal factors, symptoms and  behaviours. Examining some of the characteristics of psychopathic behaviour is a useful exercise. World literature is a good place to search for the psychological profile of the  psychopath. This is where Freud and Jung and so many others have found their psychoanalytical models, in literature ancient and modern. World literature will be referred to in the course of this study as a means of gaining a deeper understanding of the psychopath and his criminal compunctions. This will help us identify the characteristic signs of the psychopathic personality in order to empower those trained to spot the signs and symptoms to protect themselves. We have a societal practice of protecting children under the belief that they are innocent. The tendency of the family structure is for the older members of a family unit, whom we refer to as matriarchs and patriarchs, to shelter and protect children in order to protect their innocence. The skeletons are tucked away in the closet, where they can‘t be seen, hidden from view. The older the family member, the more privy they are likely to be to all the skeletons. They will then be forced to perform the forensics on the skeleton to discover the cause of this family mishap or tragedy.

Make Each Month Matter; Make Each Day Miraculous - Coach Joyce E. Barrie

    in Self Help

Coach Joyce E. Barrie says that you must appreciate the value of time.  You have exactly the same hours in a day that Albert Einstein had, that Leonardo da Vinci, Sigmund Freud, Aristotle, and Abraham Lincoln had, to name a few.  You get the idea.  Look at how these extraordinary people used their time.  Today, we ask you to consider how you use your time.  Are you meeting your goals?  Are you proud ot the day's accomplishments?  Are you living your life to the fullest?  All you have is today.  Make today count.  Make today the day to seize the opportunities you have put off.  Just do it and do it NOW!  If not now, when???

It seems that those of us in the "Black Conscious Community" reject the teachings of S. Freud and any applicability of his theories in our Black lives.  As a result, I see that we have "missed the boat" of valuable infomration about Us in our CURRENT mental, emotional and behavioral status.
My INTENT is to uncover and expose the SHHHYYYTTT in Freuds work and HOW it APPLIES...to US....

Freudian Stories: Sex and Aggression; Eros and Thanatos; Id, Ego, and Superego

    in Psychology

While Psychoanalysis has evolved in many directions since being founded by Sigmund Freud, his theories, if understood metaphorically, are capable of shedding light on much human misery and our often failed attempts to find peace and happiness. Freud's thinking moved in several directions at once. First was his clinical theory which concentrated on the individual and the treatment of mental ills and suffering. Second were his speculations on society, human history and social organization.  Freuds ideas contained in the notions of conscious and unconscious processes, conflict, Id, Ego and Superego, Sex and Aggression and his notion of Eros and Thanatos which emerged from his experiences in World War One can all be starting points in figuring where we are and where we are going as individuals and members of society. Finally, his concept of mental health in terms of the balance between work, love and play are well worth understanding.
