    Trigger Warning

A trauma trigger is an experience that causes someone to recall a previous traumatic memory, although the trigger itself need not be frightening or traumatic and can be indirectly or superficially reminiscent an earlier traumatic incident.[1] Trauma triggers are related to posttraumatic stress disorder, a condition in which sufferers often cannot control the recurrence of emotional or physical symptoms,[1] or of repressed memory.[2][3][4] Triggers can be subtle and difficult to anticipate,[5][1] and can sometimes exacerbate PTSD. A trauma trigger may also be referred to as a trauma stimulus or a trauma stressor.[6]

On the Air With Sierra Kay

    in Entertainment

Author and public speaker Sierra Kay's love of the written word was predestined.  Her mother concerned with the state of the public education system in Chicago encouraged her to read anything that she could get her hands on, including the spelling bee word list that appeared in the Chicago Tribune each year.

She was weaned on books like Anne of the Green Gables and Tale of Two Cities.  She snuck in romance novels that she hid between her mattresses.  However, her favorite book growing up was Aesop's Fables, which she feels puts her in an excellent position to share the moral's of her personal stories, whether people are interested or not.

Kay has an M.A. in Writing from DePaul University, won a Nuyorican Poets Cafe Short Story Slam and participated in Women’s Funny Fest as a member of the comedy troupe Spankx.  In addition to writing novels, she is a member of N2O Comedy in Chicago.
