The C.O.W.S. w/ The Lynching/Suicide of Frederick Jermaine Carter

    in Education

The Honorable Willie James Perkins, Sr. visits The Context of White Supremacy. Perkins is a fifteen-year veteran of the Mississippi House of Representatives, serving his fifth four-year term in the House. He is the Owner and Senior Attorney of the Law Office of Willie J. Perkins, Sr.; City Attorney for the City of Itta Bena, Mississippi and President of the Leflore County Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). State Rep. Willie Perkins has expressed suspicion and anger over the alleged suicide of twenty-six year old Frederick Jermaine Carter:"There are a lot of concerns there; No. 1, that this individual could not have (hanged) himself without the assistance of someone, if it's being declared a suicide. Why would someone from Sunflower County come to north Greenwood, the predominantly white housing area of Greenwood? Why would someone that far away come and hang themselves in north Greenwood. That does not pass the smell

The C.O.W.S. w/ The Lynching of Frederick Jermaine Carter

    in Education

Senator David Lee Jordan returns to The C.O.W.S.. We'll update the death of Frederick Jermaine Carter. Carter was found hanging from a tree on December 3rd, 2010. Local police reported his death as a suicide. Most news outlets have ignored this tragedy. Miss. Governor - and 2012 Presidential hopeful - Haley Barbour has made no comment on Carter's death. Since we last spoke with Sen. Jordan, the state medical examiner has concluded that Carter's death was the result of a hanging - not suicide. Carter's mother and appointed representatives held a press conference on March 31st to share new information.

Darren Rainey Homicide Exposed by Harold and Windy Hempstead

    in Politics Progressive

HUMAN RIGHTS FOR PRISONERS MARCH, hosted by Mary Neal, email MaryLovesJustice@gmail.com
    Call-in number (347) 857-3293. December 21, 2014 Guest: Windy Hempstead

The world was shocked to read about the wrongful death of Darren Rainey in Dade Correctional Institution in Florida. Rainey died two years ago when correctional officers dragged him into a shower and scaled him to death. Our guest, Windy Hemstead, received an urgent phone call about the murder from her brother, Harold, a prison orderly. She reported Rainey's murder to law enforcement. Two years later, Windy reported Rainey's death to the Miami Herald, because no corrective action was taken by the justice system, and she feared for her brother as a whistle blower.

The Miami Herald published a series of articles about Rainey's death and other abuses to mentally ill inmates in Florida, including "Behind Bars, a Brutal and Unexplained Death" http://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/miami-dade/article1964620.htmlhttp://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/miami-dade/article1964620.html

George C. Mallinckrodt, who ws a mental health worker at the prison, published a book: "Getting Away with Murder"
    http://georgemallinckrodt.com/getting_away_with_murder.htm

To date, Rainey's death has not be pronounced a homicide, according to Windy Hempstead. Justice is delayed.

  • The Author Chat Show with Lynda D. Brown

    in Books

Meet author/Pastor  Jermaine Gadson. Pastor Gadson will be chatting with me about his book, Tactics, Trends & Traits of the Enemy: Equipping the Believer to Fight Back.

    About the book:

This book is a "practical guide" to overcoming struggles that people face in everyday life that may not be easily recognized as spiritual in nature. Many people wrestle with unnecessary heartache, pain, temptations, and depression without knowing the true source of their dilemma. Unlike other books on spiritual warfare, this book takes the spookiness out of the picture, and shows how people experience spiritual battles in subtle things that are presented to them in everyday life. The Devil is real.  His tactics are real. But, we need not fear nor be ignorant of his devices.

    About the author:

Jermaine Gadson is the Senior Pastor of Faith Ministries, Inc., a non-traditional church located in Birmingham, AL. Prior to starting Faith Ministries, he served as an associate minister, youth minister, and pastor for local churches and ministries in the greater Birmingham area.  While, growing up in the Baptist church, he gave his life to Christ at an early age, and is a third generation minister of the Gospel.

He holds a B.A. in Religion with a Concentration in Congregational Studies and a Minor in Classics from Samford University, and a Master of Divinity from Beeson Divinity School of Samford University.  He is currently a Doctor of Ministry student at Beeson Divinity School.

He enjoys reading, writing, sports, outdoors, movies, and spending time with his family. He is happily married to his wife Kristy and they have one beautiful daughter, Khloe.

    Shattered Lives: Campus Safety

    in Current Events

Going away to college is a time in a young persons' life that should be about discovery, learning, and making lifelong friends. However, as parents send their children away from home, some for the very first time, there is even more to be anxious about, especially their safety on campus.

According to the Justice Department, "1 in 5 women will be a victim of rape or attempted rape." When these incidents occur on campus property they are in the jurisdiction of campus police, and many victims do not report, or are discouraged to report by school administrators.

With sexual assaults, active shooters, and luring into human trafficking from our college campuses, the college experience has changed.

Guest for the hour S. Daniel Carter will discuss these issues and what is being done to create real, enforceable guidelines for campuses to follow in order to make the environment safer for students everywhere.

  • Critical Discourse – Black Men, the Mayor of NYC and the NYPD; Viva Cuba?

    in Current Events

The reverberations from the Richmond County Grand Jury’s decision not to indict Daniel Pantaleo, of the NYPD, continue to be felt.

While protests on behalf of Eric Garner and Michael Brown, have been largely peaceful, if not very inconveniencing for New Yorkers, there have been sporadic instances of violence,

During a protest on the Brooklyn Bridge last Saturday, two men, both white, one a college professor, allegedly triggered a melee and assaulted police.

In the meantime, the events and reactions from that fateful day has caused tension between Mayor DiBlasio and the head of the Patrolman’s Benevolent Association, Patrick Lynch, who has accused the mayor of making remarks that are disrespectful of the police.

In fact, some of the NYPD have supported a pledge to disinvite the Mayor to their funerals.

On the international front, Barack Obama has decided to establish diplomatic and economic relations with Cuba, citing that the embargo, in place since 1961, has “not worked”.

Again, as expected, the reactions vary, with intense criticism from Sens. Marco Rubio Robert Menendez, both of whom are of Cuban heritage.

On the other hand, Jimmy Carter praised Obama’s “political courage”. Perhaps he sees this as a sort of redemption from the Mariel Boatlift?

I wonder out loud, what this means for black people economically, with an anticipated influx of Cubans to this country, just 90 miles away.

For those old enough to remember, this conjures memories of the Bay of Pigs (1961) and Cuban Missile Crisis (1962).

By the WAY, Obama says that black people are “better off” (HE said it, NOT me!)

So be prepared to discuss these pointed issues on the Critical Discourse University of the Blogosphere.
