With alarming frequency, foster and health care providers are turning to a risky but convenient remedy to control the behavior of thousands of troubled kids: numbing them with psychiatric drugs that are untested on and often not approved for children. Nearly 1 out of every 4 adolescents in California foster care system is being drugged , 3 times the rate for adolescents nationwide. Even more alarming is that of the tens of thousands prescribed psychiatric drugs, nearly 60% were prescribed powerful antipsychotics which have been documented by 72 international drug regulatory warnings to cause heart problems, stroke, diabetes, convulsions and sudden death.
According to IMS Health, the leading vendor of all US prescribing data, nearly 9 million children currently being prescribed psychiatric drugs—with more than 1 million are under the age of five.

Special Guest: Kishma George
Kishma is the founder of Kingdom Investments in Single Hearts (K.I.S.H.) Home, Inc, which was founded in August 2008 out of the desire to make an impact in the lives of young women who are presently in, or have aged out of the foster care system in Delaware.
Through Ms.George works as an Independent Living Mentor, she has mentored young people who were in or aged out of the foster care system. During her tenure as a mentor, she witnessed the tremendous challenges these young people experienced while trying to find their way to a self- sufficient and stable life.
A passion within her grew for these young women and their future as she experienced their frustration in handling basic skills, such as opening a checking/savings account, parenting and the frustration of single parenthood. Ms. George knew that these women, whether they were a single parent or single, needed a strong support system that would empower and encourage them to take control of their lives. They struggled in their transition of leaving their foster homes because many were still attending high school and were not emotionally or financially stable.
After witnessing this, Ms. George began her journey of seeking ways to assist young women in becoming emotionally and economically self- sufficient so that their transition out of the foster care system and into independent living was successful.
