Lewis Hamilton is the Formula One championship leader, but his teammate Nico Rosberg, did not let that stop him, from fighting for the championship until the final race, in Abu Dhabi.
Rosberg beat Hamilton by the slimmest of margins 0.033 seconds, and when they took the podium, Hamilton reached out his hand to his teammate, for a congratulatory handshake. This is the 10th pole for Rosberg and the best year of his career. Although teams do not get points for pole positions, Rosberg will be rewarded for his efforts when he receives the inaugural pole position trophy.
For race leader Lewis Hamilton, his use of intelligence and skill helped him win the Constructors Championship for Mercedes. It also helped him out-perform his teammate by winning 10-races this season. So for Hamilton, the fight for the championship continues until he crosses the finish line on November 23, 2014.
Interlagos has been on the race calendar since 1974 and it is the second shortest race of the season. The track was refurbished and appears to be rough on tires. According to Paul Hembrey with F1 tire supplier Pirelli, the track asphalt is oily, and if it rain, you don’t have to be an expert to know that oil and water do not mix.
Rounding out the top five in qualifying were, Williams-Martini Felipe Massa, who is Brazilian and looking for a win at home. Fourth was Massa’s teammate Valtteri Bottas, and fifth was McLaren driver Jensen Button, expected to depart Formula 1 at the end of the season.
Several drivers did better on the track today, than they have done most of the season. Perhaps it was to raise their standings before the end of the season, or, they may be afraid of being replaced by a younger driver, with the hunger they once had. Whatever the reasons, qualifying at the Brazilian Grand Prix has set the stage for what may be a dream, or a nightmare, for fans and driver.
In what has to be the most spectacular racing comeback of the season, Lewis Hamilton went from pit to podium in a fantastic race, in Budepest Hungary. The brilliant brit showed the world what a true professional can do out on the track. After being plagued with several mechanical problems with his car this season including, the one during qualifying when his car mystriously caught fire, the 2008 world champion landed on the podium with a 3rd place finish.
Today was qualifying at the Formula One Grand Prix in Budepest, Hungary. At the start of Q1, Mercedes AMG driver and 2008 World Champion Lewis Hamilton's car, mysteriously caught fire. The disaster not only ended his day in Qualifying, but could have ended his life. As a result of the event, Hamilton will have to start from the pit lane. Formula One historians have said, "No driver has ever been able to start from the pit lane and win. Hamiltin may move up 5 or 6, maybe even 10 spots, but, it will be difficult on that track." Hamilton fans said, "Do not under-estimate Lewis."
Qualifying second was Red Bull driver and 4-time world champion, Sebastian Vettel. Third was the very dependable Williams-Martini driver, Valtteri Bottas. Rounding out the top five was, Red Bull Daniel Ricciardo and Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso.

Formula 1 Qualifying at the Abu Dhabi Yas Marina Circuit
Saturday November 2, 2013
Qualifying day was met with ups, downs, controversy and surprise.
After the race in Abu Dhabi there are only two races left in the Formula 1 season. The USGP in Austin Texas and the Brazil race.
The 2013 season is the swan song for the very likeable Mark Webber, who just made pole position by beating the time of teammate and red bull champion, Sebastian Vettel.
On the downside was fan favorite and 2008 champion Lewis Hamilton, who qualified fourth but was unable to finish Q3 because his car broke-down. The Mercedes driver is in a great position to take the number two or three spot on points, and help his team land in second place, in the constructors.
Abu Dhabi was not without controversy when the "iceman," Kimi Raikkonen, with Lotus F1 held a press conference to clear up rumors of trouble between him and team heads.
The usually shy Raikkonen said the issues were about money. He went on to say he had not been paid all year and he might not race on Sunday unless, something was worked out. This is Kimi’s last season with Lotus F1 because he made a deal with the Ferrari team and will drive for them next season.
The big surprise during qualifying was Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso who did not make it into the top ten. Alonso will be in 11th place on the starting grid, which has put his team chances of second place, in jeopardy.
