THERE IS A LOT OF DISAGREEMENT ON THE ISSUE OF ANCHOR BABIES AND IF THEY WERE INTENDED BY THE WRITERS OF THE 14TH AMENDMENT WHEN THEY INCLUDED THE CITIZENSHIP CLAUSE IN ITS TEXT. TWO POINTS ARE IMPORTANT. FIRST, CONGRESS HAS THE AUTHORITY TO DETERMINE THE DEFINITION OF WHAT QUALIFIES FOR CITIZENSHIP AND SECONDLY, IT IS CLEAR THAT THE INTENT OF THE WRITERS OF THE AMENDMENT, LED BY SENATOR JACOB HOWARD OF MICHIGAN IN 1866 HAD NO INTENTION TO MAKE CITIZENSHIP A MATTER FOR INTERPRETATION. WE WILL DISCUSS THE WORDING AND INTENT OF THE CLAUSE AND HOW IT HAS BEEN, LIKE SO MUCH OF THE CONSTITUTION, VIOLATED OVER TIME AND ITS IMPACT ON MODERN DAY AMERICA ON WEDNESDAY NIGHT'S EDITION OF NORTH FLORIDA WRITER LIVE. JOIN ME AND MY ASSOCIATE ANALYST, MARK COLLIER, AS WE LOOK AT WHY THE AMENDMENT WAS CREATED AND WHY IT HAS BEEN SO MISREPRESENTED. AGREE OR DISAGREE, IT SHOULD BE ENLIGHTENING.

Viki Winterton interviews Sue Ellen Allen!
Sue Ellen is a former University of Texas grad, former educator, former business owner, former community leader, and former inmate at Arizona State prison.
She is a current author and activist promoting education behind bars. She serves as Executive Director for Gina’s Team, an organization that brings educational programs and speakers into prison to inspire and empower the inmate population to strive for a better future and a successful reentry. Gina’s Team is named for her prison roommate who died there of medical neglect. Gina’s death was a defining moment of Sue Ellen’s journey, giving her life a new purpose and passion.
In prison, under harsh conditions, she survived advanced breast cancer and learned to turn pain into power. She also learned that not all prisons are behind bars, and that every journey has a purpose. Overcoming incredible odds, she found her purpose and now works with prison officials, legislatures, and interns from Arizona State University to serve the forgotten population behind bars, so that upon their reentry to society they will join our community as positive, contributing members.
The award-winning author of The Slumber Party From Hell, a memoir about her prison journey, her writing has also been included in Serving Productive Time by Tom and Laura Lagana, authors of Chicken Soup For the Prisoner’s Soul. Additionally, many of her poems were published in Cosmopolitan magazine under the leadership of Helen Gurley Brown.

This week's Travel Today with Peter Greenberg comes from Sacramento, California. Right now, the city is ground zero in one of the worst Southwest droughts in recent history. Sacramento Fire Chief Walt White talks about the wildfire situation—and also what off-the-brochure restaurants keep him and his firefighters fueled so they can keep Sacramento safe. There are dozens of great choices, because Sacramento is not just the capital of California, but is also the self-proclaimed “Farm-to-Fork Capital of the U.S.” and has compelling reasons to support that claim. How many farms are within a 30-mile radius of the capital? The answer might surprise you.
Craig McNamara, Founder of the Center for Land-Based Learning, gives us some remarkably practical advice about living—and traveling—more sustainably. Then, Lial Jones, Executive Director of the Crocker Art Museum, explains some of its more unusual exhibitions and programs, including one on art and pain management. There’s all of this and more when Travel Today with Peter Greenberg broadcasts from Sacramento, California.
