We all know why firefighters exist in our cities but we might not all know the importance of their jobs. Firefighters primarily extinguish fires that threaten civilian populations and property and to rescue people from danger. These hard workers used to only be men and were referred to as firemen, however, now many women fight the fires that threaten our cities so the team was changed from firemen to firefighters.
To become a firefighter a college degree is not required however some do go to college and earn an associate or a bachelor degree in fire science. In these classes the soon to be firefighters will learn things such as how to control a fire with equipment or how to inform their communities on how to prevent fires. A college degree is not required to become a firefighter because most skills are learned on the job or in training. There are several different types of firefighters found around the world including the following; career firefighters, volunteer firefighters and retained firefighters. Firefighters also on average work a fifty-six hour week with eight to twenty-four hour shift. Firefighters serve in an important spot in our communities and are vital to the safety of our families and friends.

Business Meets Art – Life of a Top Sculptor

    in Business

Joseph Petrovics has created the 9/11 World Trade Center firefighters’ memorial, monumental pieces for St. John the Divine cathedral, well known governmental commissions, as well as highly popular abstract pieces in wood, bronze, and stone.  When not instructing Americas young, up-and-coming elite, he labors in his studio, transforming his dreams and visions into the tangible.  All the while, Joseph is an independent businessman.  His art must not only meet his own idealized standards – it must be salable.

How does a sculptor, even a top sculptor, make his work known and purchased?  How does one transform a 20-inch model of clay into a 16-foot bronze monument?  Now, Joseph has brought to life a new life-size model of a very unusual, emotionally-gripping horse. Tune in and learn what tools and energy brought it from his mind to his studio, and what steps it must take to move from studio into the pubic view?

The Helios Biblios Hour (book of the SUN) : May Day The Destiny of America pt2

    in Current Events

Over one hundred years have passed since that first May Day. In the earlier part of the 20th century, the US government tried to curb the celebration and further wipe it from the public's memory by establishing "Law and Order Day" on May 1. We can draw many parallels between the events of 1886 and today. We still have locked out steelworkers struggling for justice. We still have voices of freedom behind bars as in the cases of Mumia Abu Jamal and Leonard Peltier. What is the origin of mayday as a distress signal The term Mayday is used internationally as a distress signal in voice procedure radio communications. It derives from the French venez m'aider, meaning “come help me”. It is used to signal a life-threatening emergency by many groups, such as police forces, pilots, firefighters, and transportation organizations.Draco’s story and his infamous Draconian Laws, offers us much food for thought and teaches us numerous political lessons. Draco, though commissioned by the majority of his co-citizens, and not the “gods” like his predecessors, failed to deliver a people-friendly legal system. Instead, he became notorious for delivering one of the most inhumane and harshest legal codes the world has ever known. Nevertheless, from the ashes of that failure a revolutionary system slowly emerged which would soon set the foundation for a significant portion of modern law and politics in the Western world.
