Over the Top Cycling - Robin Farina interviews Ally Stacher

    in Fitness

Ally Stacher is a professional cyclist with Specialized-Lululemon. She's a support rider who does everything she possibly can do to help her team succeed.  Stacher

inherited a love of homemade juicing from her aunt, who bought her a Jack LaLanne juicer during her sophomore year of college. “I was instantly hooked,” she says. “My roommate and I started juicing like crazy.”

It’s a habit that Stacher continues today—even while on the road. “I was traveling with a little Omega juicer,” she says. “It was perfect—it fit into my backpack so I never had to put it in my checked bag. Then the travel got to it and it died on me. It was an incredibly sad day. I now travel with a Breville juicer my teammate bought me for my birthday. It’s pretty easy to lug around. I will say, though, when you go through security with a juicer in your backpack it tends to set off the alarm.”

Stacher claims to be a frugal juicer—“I don’t do too many add-ins…the occasional wheat grass, but that’s about it.”—but admits to being crazy for beets. And for good reason: Research show that drinking beetroot juice can boost a cyclist’s endurance. In one study, volunteers were able to ride about a minute and a half longer compared to when they drank a placebo. Ninety-two seconds may not seem like a lot, but in the world of professional cycling, it’s more than enough to separate the winners from the losers.

Holly Stephey & James A. Mitchell, The Walrus And The Elephants John Lennon

    in Entertainment

*The Walrus and the Elephants: John Lennon's Years of Revolution, James A. Mitchell.

In late 1971 John Lennon left London and pop stardom behind and moved to New York City, eager to join a youth movement rallying for social justice and an end to the Vietnam War. Lennon was embraced by radicals and revolutionaries, the hippies and Yippies at odds with the establishment. Settling in Greenwich Village, the former Beatle was soon on the front lines of the antiwar movement, championing causes and inspiring solidarity—and suspicion. Seen as a savior by a generation in need of cultural heroes, Lennon was just as passionately hounded by a government anxious to silence enemies within its borders. The Walrus and the Elephants is told by the unlikely cast of friends, among them the members of Elephant's Memory, who were some of the few who got to know the man behind the Beatle. Exclusive interviews include writer and feminist leader Gloria Steinem; Congressional Black Caucus cofounder Ron Dellums; "Chicago Seven" veteran Rennie Davis; immigration attorney Leon Wildes; and legendary poet-activist John Sinclair, whose imprisonment for marijuana—ten years for two joints—kicked off Lennon's American journey. It was a busy year of making music and controversial TV appearances, allies and enemies. It was a time of great change in America, one that saw the end of the movements of the sixties, the beginning of a new era. The Walrus and the Elephants is a look back at that time and at the John Lennon who joined the revolution, through the eyes of those who dreamed, rallied, and fought alongside him.

    Bad things

    in Politics Progressive

On the December 10, 2014 episode of Liberal Dan Radio:

The torture documents were released by the Senate this week. Some call it a political ploy, others call it needed oversight. I will discuss certain aspects of the law and why we should consider ourselves to be a better nation than others.

An episode of Newsroom aired on Sunday and it caused a stir in feminist circles. People did not appreciate how Sorkin handled the topic of on campus rape. However, I believe the criticisms are misguided and I will discuss why.

I believe I also found a bug on healthcare.gov. I will go into that in more detail. Of course, bugs are meant to be fixed and are not an excuse to bring the whole thing down so calm down conservatives.

Finally, I have started a GoFundMe page in order to sell advertising for the show as well as encourage people to chip in and help support the show if they like it. So please, contribute.

Those stories, headlines, tweet of the week and more on Liberal Dan Radio: Talk From The Left, That's Right:  Wednesday 8pm Central on Blog Talk Radio.

    in Politics Conservative

Join us this evening 6pm est discuss Pres OSoundbites releasing of 6 "Detainees" held at Guantanamo to Uruguay.  Uruguay, yes a humanitarian action! Just as Humanitarian for sending "Detainees" to Qatar! US will send four Syrians, one Tunisian & one Palestinian

Thanks to Senate Democrats (including Mrs. Feinstein) US Embassy's around the world are put on high alert due to Democrats wanting the release of CIA Torture Report.  We'll discuss this issue.  Have Democrats put our own CIA and our US Ally's in jeopardy of further terrorist attacks?  What about American Citizens traveling abroad?  Was killing of American school teacher Ibolya Ryan in Abu Dhabi an "isolated" incident by a muslim "Lone Wolf"?

The Old Tired Progressive Hillary Clinton was at it again speaking at Georgetown University - "America should "empathize" and "show respect" to it's enemies! Yep, she actually said it. Maybe we should ask the families of Amb Chris Stevens, Tyrone Woods, Glen Dougherty & Sean Smith about having "EMPATHY". Then again Hillary - What Difference does it Make!

Having discovered the Feminine Face of God and what that means for women, men and the species of Mother Earth,  Karen became an  emissary of the sacred feminine, combining spirituality, feminism and women’s empowerment to offer the world a real alternative to the domination and oppression of patriarchy —  the rule of men and the authoritarian father.  Her work has taken the form of tours to sacred sites of Goddess around the world, teaching, giving workshops and messages from the pulpit, writing books and she’s the host of her own radio show, Voices of the Sacred Feminine for the last 8 years discussing issues of sex, power, politics and religion.
