The worst nightmare – and the worst wound – for any parent is the loss of a child. Such a loss cuts to the core of one’s spirit and soul. But that painful experience sometimes opens our senses to mere inklings as well as clear indicators that there is an energy of life that survives mortal death. Such was Donna Mebane's experience.
Practical, busy, grounded. All adjectives that could be applied to Donna. A successful businesswoman who consulted with companies around the world, Donna was also a wife and mother who had raised four children to young adulthood. Keeping up with all the demands of her busy life, spirituality was not at the forefront of Donna's mind.
Counselor Mandy Eppley speaks with author, musician and founder of The Pedestal Magazine, John Amen. He shares his story of a “fundamental heart-break” - losing his mother at the age of 5. John recalls that even from his teenage years the artistic process was where he felt empowered and says “art saved my life.” Mandy ties in Step 6 - Service, of the Model of Heart-Centered Grief, by speaking about the fact that we find meaning in our losses by giving back. John shares that helping people to discover their voice is a passion of his and a way of giving back.
John Amen is the author of five collections of poetry: Christening the Dancer, More of Me Disappears, At the Threshold of Alchemy, The New Arcana (with Daniel Y. Harris), and, most recently, strange theater (New York Quarterly Books). His work has appeared in journals nationally and internationally and been translated into Spanish, French, Hungarian, Korean, and Hebrew. In addition, he has released two folk rock CDs: All I’ll Never Need and Ridiculous Empire. Further information is available on his website: www.johnamen.com. John is a frequent music reviewer for No Depression. He founded and continues to edit The Pedestal Magazine (www.thepedestalmagazine.com).

Stephen's murder was like punching a hole in a dam. The pent up rage of Israel's leaders and their fury at this new "movement" came out in a torrent, sweeping away lives and property. God's people suffered great loss: families were torn apart and survivors were scattered from home, property and loved ones.
Let's look at the eternal good that God achieved with this scattering. The disciples went everywhere "preaching the word." Far from discouraging them, they couldn't contain themselves. They had to tell others.
One of them, Philip, headed north into Samaria. His work there was so impressive that the apostles, Peter and John, followed him. They encountered Simon, a sorcerer. So will we.
Meanwhile, Philip headed south again, beyond Jerusalem and engaged with a high court official from Ethiopia. He was a eunuch.
Both stories are more than exciting; they demonstrate prophetic fulfillment. God was bringing His promises into reality in the gritty history of devoted disciples like you and me. In this case, his name was Philip.

Join me in a 90 day experience of self-love, self-care, pampering, clean eating and moveming your body. In a nutshell, a 90 day STEWARDSHIP OF THE BODY experience.
A few years ago, I buried my grandmother. As I kissed her cold, lifeless body laying in the casket, I became painfully aware that the body is not who we really are. The essence of my grandmother was not in that body laying there. She was gone, even though her body was right there that I could touch.
This body is not the real you, but how we care for it is how we experience this side of eternity, this side of reality. It is through this body that we interact with others, and even though my grandmother's body was still around, she was absent. So, caring for this body is important because without it, we cannot interact with others. As much as I would like it, that body laying in that casket could not jump up and give me a hug - because it was only a housing, and the housing had collapsed.
That Aha extended to my own realization that the body I walk around in is not the real me either. The fat me, the slimmer me, the sad me, the happy me - all expressed through my body - was just that; EXPRESSED THROUGH MY BODY! The physical expression that people could see was simply displayed through my body, the real me is what DETERMINED what my body showed the world.
So the fat me that people saw, was simply the physical expression of a decision to eat more and move less. The slimmer version of me that people saw was simply the physical expression of my decision to eat less (or better), and move more.
How would 90 days of focused attention, of good stewardship of this body, impact our energy, excitement, and testimony? Join me and find out.
Aaron Rodgers has led the Green Bay Packers to six consecutive playoff appearances. The Packers were on the brink of going to the Super Bowl, in 2014. They finished last season with the top scoring offense by averaging 30.4 points per game. The were set to return all 11 starters, until Jordy Nelson tore his ACL. Nelson will not return this season. Green Bay has developed wide receivers, for a number of years. Do you think the loss of Nelson will end the Packers streak of four division titles, in a row?
After a disappointing 5-11 season, Marc Trestman was fired as the Chicago Bears coach. Brandon Marshall was traded to the New York Jets, and Jay Cutler remains the starting quarterback. All John Fox did in Denver was win. He was 46-18, but after failing to go back to the Super Bowl, Fox and John Elway decided to make a change. It didn't take long for the Bears to hire Fox. There are many things that need to get better for the Bears. The question every season is "Can Jay Cutler lead this team to the Super Bowl?" For the quarterback to be succesful, it starts with an offensive line. This unit must stay healthy and improve to give cutler time. Jeffery Alshon will assume the number one receiver role. Can he keep producing now that Marshall is gone? Matt Forte has been a consistent all around back who can run and catch the ball. What will the Bears do on defense to slow down the offensive units, in the NFC North?
JIm Caldwell took over a disorganized Detroit Lions, and led them to the playoffs, in 2014. The Lions have a potent passing attack with Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate. There are two issues on offense. They do not have a work horse running back, that can take the ball at anytime. Matthew Stafford need to cut down on his turnovers.
Talking about death doesn’t come easy for most people. So if the topic of death and dying makes you feel a bit uneasy, you’re not alone. At the same time, death is a part of life. It’s something that we all experience—the loss of those we know and love, and ultimately, our own death. Its time to change the conversation about death and dying. To bring death out of the shadows and into the daylight. Ignoring death or denying its existence doesn’t make it go away. And deep down, we all know it’s still there. If we avoid planning for death, it doesn’t really help anybody. When death does come, being unprepared can make the experience a lot more challenging, both for ourself and for those we leave behind. Are you prepared?

The things we can see and perceive, in all the creation, from the tiniest to the greatest, are not things that enter eternity, when time is no more, but the invisible things are never destroyed, even the souls of men, which are ordained to eternal life, or eternal death. The spiritual world is the place where kingdoms are in conflict, and the battle between eternal truth and the vanity of lies is played out in the arena of souls. Which ruler reigns in our hearts? Have you been visited by the One God raised from the dead and heard His offer of forgiveness and eternal life? The followers of the enemy of truth, are reaping in time, the transformation of their inner nature, by the Baphomet goat, who is filled with an infinitely immeasurable hatred for every part of your being, because of the image of God in you. The truth that the Son is sowing into those He has purchased is also changing and transforming them by holy joys and graces of healing, displacing sorrow and regret and fears with gifts of healing love and glimpses of wondrous things that redeem their souls with a sense of God's pleasure in and over them. Call-in with your hopes in Christ and your victories over evil.
Acceptance a poem by Barbara Dixion
This is who I am
This is all I've got
These are my mistakes
And everything I'm not
I'm not asking for your love
I want you to accepct me
LEt go of these chains
Set me free
Yes I mess up
And I'm nowhere near perfect
But are the brusises and scars
Really worth it
Maybe I'm just a kid
Who grew up way too fast
And I'm tryna make a future
But i'm stuck in the past
And you look so skinny
But You feel fat inside
You eat to cure
The emotions that have died
And you're dying to be loved
Cause you don't even love you
And you're sitting in pain
Don't know what to do
you look and smile in the mirrior
But the smile looks fake
And looking at yourself
Was another mistake
You hate yourself
And you wish you were pretty
And so you wallow
In your self pity
You're hoping to be accepcted
Cause you're so misunderstood
You'd change your life in a second
If only you could
Feel less worthless
And gain some self esteem
Maybe things wouldn't be
As bad as they seem
So you're writing yourself
In hopes that
You'll get better
Maybe one day you'll see
That you're a shooting star
You'll see that you've come
So very far
And accepct yourself
For who you are
